building exhaust system
I have been reading car mags since 25 cent hop up and pocket size car craft. In the past ,many articles on exhaust size length of pipes ,crossover pipes and anything else you can think of for exhaust on v8 engines. Now that size doesn't matter as much I WOULD LIKE to see the same discussion on v6 engines.lets compare 231 buicks to262 chevys for street use. I want to use a 262 chevy in a fiero,HOW do I build an exhaust sys. for the street for stop light to stop light.Do I build for max torque? Is 2 ", 2 1/4, 2 1/2 " exhaust system best for 5000 rpm engine? Both of these engines are 80 degree engines.but only 6 pistons per revolution, does this make a difference pipe lay out? These are some of the questions about v6 exhaust.Iknow there are many more.Anybody know any answers?thanks phil

Hello Phil,
To get the "skinney" on 6 banger exhaust I'd check with www.burnsstainless.com. I buy all my parts from them. Also www.drgas.com or www.spd.com will have info.
My FYI.

my gut says go 2 1/4. But I don't know specs..
Education is expensive. Keep that in mind, and you'll never be terribly upset when a project goes awry.

your ex will be very small so 2 to 2.250 would do it .i built many ex and headers first you have to look at the room you have in your fiero .i did work on one with a v8 sbc in one not much room for any length of tube for headers or ex .i would say 1 5/8 on headers make the tubes is long as your canLast edited by pat mccarthy; 06-15-2009 at 05:37 AM.

thanks guys.
Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
