    Sealed Beam Headlight Improvement Ideas

Ok I was wondering how I could improve my headlights.I presently have 7" Sylvania Halogen H6024 sealed beam units with the three prong connector. They definitely do not cut it out on the road and was wondering if any of you folks would no of an upgrade kit or any place to look for something that would be an improvement. Thanks for the help.

Lots of companies offering the conversion lenses to use the new style bulbs.... Got a set in my old '71 pickup... Think I got them off eBay for like $60.00 with bulbs....pics in my gallery if you're interested.

If you have not done so already, run relays in your headlight wiring and you will see a big improvement in illumination.

I agree on the relays, I have them for low beam and high beam on mine. Do some reading on this site for ideas and diagrams to set them up.

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

The tri-bar headlights are also available with a directional light in the center if that would be a consideration at all!!!

I have the Sylvania 6024's in my 57 Olds and the lighting is terrific, in fact much better than the tri-bar halogens I have on my 34. I agree with use of relays and upgraded wiring would help too, if not already done.

I have to redo the wiring harness in my 34 this year to hopefully improve everything including the headlights that currently throw a beam about the same distance as a battery powered headlight on a Schwin bike.

I've been looking at some of the 7" seal beam bulbs that have a turn signal bulb inside the headlight bulb. Has anyone used these and what was their results. Also, the bulb prices seem to be all over the place, $75 to $175 a pair? I have not found any front turn signals that I like yet, and thought the internal style might work out.

The above suggestion of adding relays to the "high draw" headlight circuit was a good idea.

I've heard both good and not so good opinions on the headlights with the turnsignals inside. I think it is a neat idea, but have heard that when the headlights are on, the light over powers the turnsignal lights, making it difficult to see by on coming traffic.

I have also heard the same about the headlights with the clear LED turnsigals built into the bottom of the light's glass. I would think that the ones with the amber LED's might work well. Price tags do run all over the place and at $180, might be a little rich for me right now. I also think the ones with the LED's built in are a little to modern looking for my cars. I think I would rather go with the 682's with the LED turnsignal mounted on top. More to the period look.

Get some E-code (European spec) H4 bulb H6024 housings. There's a guy on Ebay that sells Autopal (an average Euro brand) for about 40 bucks a pair shipped. I have sets of the square H6054 style Autopals in most of my vehicles, and a set of H6024 style housings in a Wrangler.

It gets you two things, H4 bulb technology, and E-code optical specs... Basically DOT has no real specs for output quality (only wattage limits) the Europeans however have minimum standards for actual quality of the output. Any E-code light has to be good enough to be in a car going unlimited speeds down the Autobahn... So their standards are far better than ours.

E-codes have a sharp horzontal cutoff, excellent coverage without hot spots or blotchyness.... very even smooth output and 3 to 4x better output while actually being nicer to opposing traffic due to the sharp cutoff.

    Pet subject of mine...

BTW Blow By I found this looking for pics of that bad ass Willy's of yours. I am a Jeep nut and thinking of putting a Nailhead I have into one. Hows the head room with a 3" chop?
