Oak should do...might want to ask some of the more resto type guys, I usually do all my roof supports with metal.... but yeah, IMO a hardwood would be best,,,,,, as for the glue, might be a real booger to get the wood strip off. Might want to try a heat gun and a semi-rigid putty knife with a sharp blade......Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!
