57 fairlane horn ????????
Hey guy's need some help on a customers 57 fairlane horn. I gotta be missing a part under the wheel. If you look at the second pic you can see the horn contact at the 3 o-clock position, third pic is a side veiw showing that the contact does not stick up very high, fourth pic is a shot of the inside of the steering wheel and you can see the brass ring. Now the problem is the contact on the signal switch does not come out far enough to contact the steering wheels brass ring and there is no way to make it longer, sooooo I gotta be missing a part and I would assume it would be some sort of ring that goes between the switch cantact & the steering wheels brass ring ???????Last edited by HWORRELL; 12-09-2008 at 05:11 PM.

Missing part?
You are missing the most important part, the whole horn wire lead.I just put a custom wheel in my '54 Ford, the pictures you posted are identical to the '54's.The reason the steering shaft is hollow is the lead wire runs thru it and comes out by the steering box,it plugs in there and a wire goes from it to the horn relay. The top of that wire by your horn contact seats in the top of the shaft and is made of brass with a spring loaded center button. You might want to put a wanted add on the Fordbarn.com. also check out www.1954ford.com Parts for Sale, member mainlinetim is parting out a car and may have one, 54-59's should interchange.I recently picked up a CD on ebay for $6 it's called the: Ford Parts and Illustrations Manual 1949-1959 it has blow ups of most of the cars components and a part number listed next to it.I suggest you purchase one, best money I have spent in a while!Last edited by JeffB2; 12-10-2008 at 10:33 AM. New info!
OK,I got curious and checked my CD for a part number the '57 is all by itself, part# B7A-14308-A 50" length,51-56 use part# 1A-14308-B and is 57" but other than that they should interchange. As the saying goes:"better to have it too long than too short"Good news! the part # for the '57 is good at classic auto parts Phone is:1-800-654-3247 price was $12.95 for a new one. Good Luck!Last edited by JeffB2; 12-10-2008 at 11:38 AM. Reason: add text

Thanks Jeff.................. that was the ticket.....hmmmmmmmmm some wire, some 1/2 round nylon to make the bushing,a spring and a 22 long rifle casing for the contact.........
Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
