    now me i never looked at the inlet to my airbox i just changed the filter if needed

    usually the inlet for the air box is tucked inside the inner fender an i supose he couldn't if the hole is only that size

    true but i exsplain the best i can to give you an idea. but think of a box with 2 holes 1 hole is 1&1/2" on the bottom and the other hole is 3" on top so air comes in the 1&1/2" hole through the air filter and through the 3" hole and air flow sensor and 3"hose to the intake and into the engine

    i've seen guys do that for ram air by taking out 2 headlights or have a ram air scoop under the radiator

    but otherwise i'm going to 86 that ribbed rubber hose and replace it with a 3" steel exhaust pipe with 2 rubber cuplars so it don't collaps under vaccume i did it to my 95 dodge avenger i bought a big radiator hose with a 90 degree bend to fit a 2&1/2" pipe and the 2&1/2" intake cut out the elbow and went to my dads buddy's exhaust shop an custom bent a hunk of 2&1/2 exhaust pipe and stretched the end to 3" to fit the K&N cone air filter and walla a custom cold air intake

    I guess I don't get all this. If you are running EFI in closed loop the CPU is going to adjust the fuel to be the same regardless (within its capabilities). Also how does all this play into your original premise?

    well a resticted air filter can rob MPG and was just thinking of going to a less restrictive air filter like a K&N but as far as the ugly ribbed air hose i want to change to smooth metal one for my own reason. just looking to cut corners and try and free up more MPG
