    Sounds like you may have just installed the intake and distributer too. I suggest that you double check your ignition timing and make sure that the distributer is indexed correctly. Retarded timing can cause overheating, even to the point of glowing red exhaust manifold/headers. Also since you mention that it has been sitting for sometime, make sure that the cooling passages in both the engine and radiator are clear and that the radiator hoses are in good shape. You mention you are in the military, take it by the auto hobby shop at the base, there is almost always one of the old retired GI mechanics around there that has seen just about everything and will be able to help you sort it out.

    Have fun with your project, sure sounds like the price is right!
