    Question s10 chassis

     



    I am building a 35 chevy 3w/coupe I am going to use an s10 frame ,from what I understand the s10 frame has a wheelbase of 109 and the 35 is 112 I think? I have a corvette independit rear I was going to put 3 inhces backon the frame. Has anyone out there done this or somthing simular?
    Need all the help I can get on this one.I also heard there was a company that sold a kit to use this frame on a early model ford with some small modifacations.
    anyway I am axious to hear from ya'll.

    Jerry, I don't think this is a great idea. The S-10's have a steering box way out front. Unless you are going fenderless and want a box hanging out on a huge pair of ugly rails this is not for you. These frames work good on 42-48 fords and mercs and 50's pickups, but just would look ugly under this car. Running fenders with your car wouldn't hide the steering box. It is just out there. The S-10's are 109 inch for the regular one. 118 for the long box or extended cab and 122 1/2 for the long box extended cab. I am using one under a 48 ford and it works fine there. Lots of little glitches to figure out, but all in all a good setup. Just my 2 cents.

    I would like you to not rule out other options. The S-10 frame kicks up just behind the cab for the bed. This will put the S-10 frame above the rear floor of your car.
    The car will also have less value than other options & other options are easier to pull off & less work.

    If you are trying to get by cheap look into using a Must II IFS & Crysler 5th ave rear springs........let us know how you are progressing with your car.....Don

    Thanks to you all for some good advice. Any good (cheap) alternatives I wish I had the origanal frame but I don't so I'm kinda in the dark.I'm not aposed to a mustang II and have anice corvette rear.But need a frame.Help???

    Jerry - I did not realize you did not have a frame. I would try to locate an original frame first. If you are still going to go forward on a frame swap, I'd look at the mid 80's Malibu(116" wheelbase) or El Camino frame(118") wheelbase). This suspention rides extremely well.
    The frame will be too wide so you have to straighten out the rails from just behind the front suspension to just forward of the rear suspention. I've used this frame twice(41 Ford conv't & a 66 Rolls Royce)
    If you proceed in this direction let me know & I'll try to walk you thru it.
    Several other frame to look at: Chev Blazer(might not have the trk kick up) & the Dodge DakotaI've heard of theses being used but, have not seen one.

    Jerry, I think you may find a malibu clip too wide and large for a 35. The blazer frame is about 100 inch wheelbase. really short. And you still have the problem of the steering box way out front. Try to find a stock frame and go from there. The car you are doing is not a beginner project as they are full of wood structure as well. Hope you are capable of either replacing the wood or putting in a new steel subframe. Good luck. Pat

    Any car or pickup frame from 1935 to 1940, 1941 for trucks, will work. Passenger car frames have a body mount that isn't needed, but easily removed. Shouldn't too hard to find one.

    Jerry B again does anyone know If the 35 coupe frame is the same as the sedan frame and will a 36,37,38 frame work? I agree that an origanal frame will be much easier to work with. also does anyone know of chassis componets are available to build this frame. thanks again for all the help

    Jerry, I think there are 2 frames for those cars. Master and deluxe and they may be different wheelbases. Try checking out some chevy sites to find out the differences. Pat.
