I am also looking for a quiet semi performance muffler. I am going to try a turbo muffler that has a large body. Dynomax makes one for motor homes/tow vehicles that is cheap. It has a 4"x10"x20" case. The original case was 14" long. I bought the quietest flowmasters(2 yrs ago) & they are too loud.Don Meyer, PhD-Mech Engr(48 GMC Trk/chopped/cab extended/caddy fins & a GM converted Rolls Royce Silver Shadow).

Muffler
Hello, I have Flowmaster "Hushflow" mufflers on my SBC equipped '48 Buick. Let me tell you they are not quiet but do have a very pleasent low rumble if you drive with a light foot...if you get into it the sound level really takes off. I have the heat risors plugged and that contributes to the sound and I will take the intake manifold off and unplug them when I do any more engine work on the car.. they were a lot quieter with the heat risors open. I like these mufflers because the case is stainless and they should last a good long time..Buy a Buick, they got plenty power!

howdy
I run the borla 16" round style race mufflers on my 37 chevy pickup ...
with a 496" motor and 3 1/2" exhaust ,, the idle is a deep rumble and driving at 65 gives a tolerable exhaust note
