    Sucide doors

I have a 37 chevy coupe and am interested in changing the doors to a suicide configuration.

I would like to hear from others that have done the same to their cars and I am especially interested in problems encountered and success stories.

    Thanks

Two ways to do it........either with an hinge kit made by some company like Suicide Doors, or finding a donor car with hinges that can be adapted. I'm a fan of the first choice, because I think they just fit and can be made to work better. However, I bet someone on here will be able to offer some suggestions for the 2nd method too.

Getting the doors to swing properly is the toughest part, you need the two new hinges to be in perfect alignment. The latch part is the easy thing, ones like Bear Claw and similar are extremely adaptable, and safe. You may also want to consider adding one of the secondary bolt type latches, just to be very safe. They didn't call these doors suicide for nothing.

I'm in agreement with Don, start by getting a HIGH QUALITY suicide hinge kit. One area that you do not want to save a few bucks and go with a low quality product, you'll suffer for it till the day you sell the car!!!!!

I was going to do it with my 37 but since I had such a hard time lining up my doors, I said the heck with it and kept them stock with origional latches and they work great. Let me know how you make out if you go that route.

I guess the same could be said for ANY modification, like chopping ,channelling, etc. Why go through all that ???? Because it satisfys our desire to make our ride the way we want it.

If we used your logic, we would all drive stock automobiles, after all, they work fine just the way they are.

The shots where the car is already painted is when the door blew open at 45mph and I didn't have a safety strap OR safety pins BOTH are a must
