Which Flowmaster Exhaust Would Sound Best?

Hows everybody doing. I have a 1956 Ford F-100 with a 351Cleveland under the hood. Nothing major, pretty much stock. Small cam and thats about it. 4bbl. Anyway, lookin to get new exhaust. Going to go with flowmaster of course. Cant decide on what would sound best.

Most likely going to be 3inch exhaust..Should i go with the Hushpower mufflers or something like a 50Series? Personal opinion what would sound best. I prefer the louder the better but i also want it to be a nice deep mellow loud. If that makes sense. Or should i should just a good ol set of Cherry bombs on there?

I'd run 2 1/2" with a cross over and a pair of Cherry bombs

A dynomax flow chart I use, and I personally like the sound of a glass packs on sbf's, the cross over helps low end torque.

bigger is not better, actully I'd say 2.25" would be best for even a mild 351. you need to keep the exhaust flowing outward, allowing the exhaust gas to expand into a large volume tube does not help, it hurts.
You don't know what you've got til it's gone

Picking a muffler can kind of be a crap shoot, the same muffler can sound different in each application depending on such variables as pipe size, pipe routing, engine size, X or H pipe placement (if used ) and muffler location.

I just did a muffler change on my 57 Plymouth last weekend because I didn't care for the sound of the turbo mufflers I originally had installed. Personally I also like the sound of glasspacks on a lot of cars. On the Plymouth however I put on a pair of reproduction Chrysler Hemi mufflers, their actually pretty quiet but have a nice rumble under acceleration and nice sound at idle.

Does it have headers? or exhaust manifolds? Whatever you have, measure the diameter of the collector and that's what size exhaust you should run. If it's exhaust manifolds it should be around 2 1/2". Keep the same size piping and you will see more HP.

I personally would get a nice set of headers, run it through an x-pipe, and then through flowmaster 40-series mufflers. They sound great

im going to have to look into getting a new set of headers, dont know if i can swing that right now...Im a 24 year old kid, so i got a lot of other "kid" expenses...You know, the pointless BS we manage to waste our money on..Plus im tryin to pick up a new car too..Also have to get this 3spd tranny rebuilt or opt to buy the AOD, along with swapping these 4.11 gears out..

Any suggestions on where i should put the x-pipe or should i leave this for a shop to determine? Im still undecided on the mufflers..Thats going to be a tough choice..I think ill stay away from the Hushpower as i dont know much about them and them seem more for show...Granted my truck is a show truck but i also drive it as a daily vehicle during the spring/summer...So its going to be between a 40/50/etc series or a set of Cherry bombs..Theres Cherry bombs on there now but they are about 15yrs old and the exhaust is 2" and all pitted.

The x pipe should go right after the headers. And yes I would get some decent headers on there, you dont have to go really high dollar, I had some Summit cheapos for a long time and they were fine. I agree on the 2.5" pipes, a little extra back pressure helps with torque off the line. I had flowmaster 40's and were too loud in my opionion, the interior droning sound was too much on the highway. Now I have Magnaflows, much less interior noise and still sounds way cool when you punch it, a bit more expensive though. Not sure how the 50's sund but they are supposed to control interior noise better.

I would go with 40 series Flowmasters with an H pipe and 2 1/2" pipes. I've yet to hear anything sound better then my 56 Chev thats set up that way.
