P.S. - It won't stand up to ultra violet light (the SUN) - it dulls badly unless topcoated with something

I was just coming onto the forum to ask about this stuff. Just today I was talking to a guy at the shop about painting or powder coating the frame. He mentioned this stuff knowing I want to do as much work as possible. So this stuff works great for sealing/protecting a frame? Any advantage to spraying vs. brushing? He said you can get it from Eastwood...is that a good place to get it?

Charlyg- does the sun affect the protection or just finish...could you just put clear over it?

    So this is the deal:

    Prep surface well
    Apply to bare metal
    Cover skin
    Do not breath

    Anything else?

    Por15

The finish just dulls in the sunlight. Still very strong., Putting a good clearcoat over it may be the answer but I would check with whoever you purchase it from as to which clear to use. It may have to be a POR15 product.

An idea for using the product is to put two self tapping screws into the top, then you can remove the screws, pour out what you need and replace the screws.

Chassis black is just plain old paint. I buy Por 15 from a local body shop supply house. Heck most all the parts stores handle it now.... Not even hard to find it out here in the sticks!!!!

Just want to make sure I do this thing right! The Por-15 website shows a three step process, Marine Clean - Metal Ready, then the Por-15. Will this do the task? I'm looking at doing the inside of the doors, cab wells, cab flooring (basically the entire inside of cab) and possibly the underside of cab. Do any of you guys put this on the underside of fenders or is that necessary? FYI- Doing a 55 Ford F100 that is in really good shape... no rust showing anywhere. The frame has already been painted silver with clear coat.
I promise a two-way guarantee... if I break it you get both parts!

I looked at the Chassis Black again and it looks like it is a 3 stage thing...prime, rust protectant, chassis black...so I guess chassis black is just paint...

charlyg- I'm not quite ready for the por15, but I'll save that number...thanks

    Try Rust Bullet.
    It's incredible.
    (No, I'm not selling it.)

I've not tried POR 15, but I've seen tests where Rust Bullet is much better.

I used Coroless a lot earlier. Coroless is nothing compared to Rust Bullet.

And one more thing. I live in Norway, wich is the country where the NATO alliance tests military equipment against wet and cold weater...

I sprayed every piece of metal on my jeep truck inside & out...
By the way that chassis black looks good sprayed on top of the por-15 like someone else said 1 QT goes a long way....3 qt's did every thing on my 4x4 right down to the nuts & bolts! well i may have gotten into a 4th. Do wear a mask & gloves..i've hand black hands for days when i didn't wear gloves.. the stuff is just that thin you can't help but get some on ya!
Oh and i been using the por-15 for around 20 years now! & they have came out with some great stuff since then...

Best of luck...you'll be hooked once you use it.

    por15

i used rust bullit instead of por15 and i think it works better. you can put it over old paint and rusted metal just the usal wire brushing to get rid of the loose paint and rust. The navy uses this stuff on there boats and they say it outlast por15. there are two typs though industral and auto motive the automotive is what i used it sprayed right on with a hvlp spray gun http://www.rustbullet.com/

Been using POR-15 on the insides of the cold air kits I make for Buick Grand Nationals. The chrome pipes I use frequently have rust inside them. I use POR-15's Metal Prep on the pipes first and then coat with gloss black POR-15. Works great!

I have used POR-15 on several vehicles. It works very well on rusted surfaces but it does not adhear to clean metal all that well? I have had several places peel after a while using it on clean metal - even using the metal prep. It will stick better to clean metal if you can wet the metal then wipe the water off and paint it while the surface just has a hint of moisture left on it.
What ever you do - do not breathe the por-15 fumes. If you do you could very likely never be able to work with paint again. I had a leaky air supply line and got some into it - I will never use the product again, not even to brush it on!!!
I have started using the Rust Bullet. It works as well but is not as harmful if you breathe some.

POR 15 is good stuff!!! I have a trailer that I painted with it a few weeks back. I went over the thing with a wire brush attachment on a grinder. Then I sprayed it on with a 10 dollar spray gun from the great harbor freight . I sprayed the bottom to get a lot of coverage real quick . I brushed the top of the trailer and it came out very glossy looks great to bad I will have to paint it again with regular paint to cover where the sun will hit. With this stuff you can have it glossy, semi gloss, or flat depending on how you apply.
