Yours would me an electrical temp gauge, the ones with the capilary tube and coiled wire around it are a mechanical temp gauge....

Chevy started using electrical temp senders with an actual wire in '56. Before that they were the capilary tubes filled with ether.Sometimes NOW are the "good old days"...
