Parallel leafs, I got questions, you got answers?
I am replacing the leafs on my 46 Chevy truck. It has a camaro rear end.
The universal joint yoke is not centered on the rearend. Mesuring from the backing plates, it is 1/2" off center to the right.
Is this normal?
The driveshaft doesnt care?
Also I am fabricating new shock mounts. If you have any pictures of how you did it, that would be cool. It will give me some ideas, and I know you guys are not short on ideas.
Thanks

Most rear wheel drive rear axles are offset to the passenger side somewhat. The rear I am installing in my T is about two inches. It is not a problem as the U joints not only handle up and down misalignment, but sideways too.
Some rodders get their housings cut and centered, but I have never had to do this or wanted to do it.

You haven't lived until you've been kicked off one or two.

It would be a drag to get kicked off, I have come to depend on it, twice a day, if I need it or not.
How do you get kicked off, not that you would know or anything.

Probably not fair to air that here, but if we ever meet at some cruise you can buy me a beer and I'll tell you all about it.

Fair enough.
Back to the topic, this is a thread on my rearend so,
How would I fix this? The two fronts and one rear are in good shape, but this one had the blown shackle on it, and it is very wore out. I was thinking I could make one out of steel but it is rivited on. Would I just bolt the new one on?
Is it possible to weld it up and re-machine the hole?
What do you think?

This will be a great story, I cant wait for that beer. Banned for life?....... huh.
The rear end is in, and all that is left is fabing the top shock mounts and I can go test it.
I hope, I hope, I hope the pinion angle is correct. I never did that before.
