Where to media or Sand Blast in San Jose, CA?

This is the first post to your super informative forum. I've been browsing for a few weeks now and have really enjoyed the forum. I bought a 66 Mustang Fastback and have plans to do a restomod. Basically I want everything to look stock on the exterior and interior, but everything modern in the engine, brakes, and suspension. But to do all that I need to media or sand blast my car. The car is already gutted. I would do it myself, but do not have a place to do it. Does anyone know were I can have the car blasted in the San Jose, CA area? Thanks you all in advance.

Media blast and sand blast is 2 different things.Media blast sheet metal parst such as body parts.NEVER SAND BLAST BODY PARTS,unless you have 20 years experience in doing so.Sand blast all frame parts.Theres my 2 pennies.

I pretty much want to do the entire car at one time, so do you think media blasting the entire car would be sufficient?

Why do you want, or think you want, to completely blast it? What are you trying to accomplish?

Years ago I had a '68 Mustang sandblasted. Never again. For the longest time sand was coming out of all the hidden places. I would turn on the heater and sand would blow out, or slam a door and sand would fall out. I vacuumed, blew it out with air, swept, etc. but it took forever to get rid of it all.

Media blasting looks cool to me, and I see they do it all the time on Overhaulin. Whether that is because of time constraints and they have to speed up the process, or that they just like the way it preps the body, I don't know. However, the body does come back as bare metal, minus the rusted areas.

I have a friend who is working on a 49 ford project,he sent the entire body,in pieces down to L.A. , minus the frame. The media that was used was walnut shells,I saw the car before and after and all i can say is what difference. The rusted spots exist no more and you have clean bare metal, well worth the 800 bucks he said it cost.It looked to me like all rust gone and 99.2 percent of the paint in the crevices.
Its gunna take longer than u thought and its gunna cost more too(plan ahead!)

Here are a couple of phone numbers I pulled out of Cruisin' News, they are in Sacramento: Perfect It offers Blasting and powder coating (916)635-8720 and A to Z Soda Blasting (209)748-2050 or (916)825-8197. They have a web page at http://www.atozsodablasting.net. They say they offer mobile service too. American Stripping (916)387-9933, they say no sand or Chemicals used. Master Blaster (530)305-4450 in Auburn offers mobile soda blasting. You could also call Brizio's shop in S. San Francisco and ask them who they use.

    Hope that helps

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

Here are some possibilities although I have to say that I have not personally used them BUT others whom I trust have recommended them to me. They all are south of you in the Hollister/North Monterey County area but certainly close enough to consider.

    1) San Benito Sand and Bead Blasting 831-638-0141 www.beadblast.com

    2) There is a body shop in Hollister that I’ve been told is very good at blasting old cars but I’ve misplaced the name and number. Call Doug at Automotive Color in Hollister (831-637-9090) He’ll be able to give you the info. Doug is also a very good source for paint and supplies.

    3) Williamson’s Auto body and Truck Repair in Prunedale 831-663-3568

I have a couple of more including a guy with a rig on a truck that will come to you but I’ll have to research those names and numbers on Monday. Let me know if you are interested in that information.

Thanks Guys for your replies. Stu Cool and M.MCC, I will check into your suggested sources.
Bob Pomenter, The car is alreay gutted and stripped. I want a bare car to start with, since this will be my first restoration of this magnatude.
