ya don't need to put a clip in it to put a 350 in it, just get the SBC bolt in mounts, relocate your e brake and make room for the steering box by pushing it aside or moving the engine over, a simpler way to do it, if that's the only reason you are clipping it.You don't know what you've got til it's gone
