"why does everyone hate the 305?"
I don't think it's a matter of hating the motor. Let me put it this way. Don't take a knife to a gunfight. Most everyone who is after performance wants to spend the least amount of money they have to in order to make their car/truck faster, so it makes no sense to start with a small motor and have to spend tons of money on it to make it competitive with another motor that is larger and cheaper, but makes as much or more power.
Most of us old geezers on this board have had the urge for originality in our time, but we've found out that it is very costly to be original, so we've settled in on what we know works for cheap.
Now, if you want cheap originality, go for an engine swap with a large motor to begin with. There's a kit to bolt a 500 inch Cadillac into your truck. How do you think others would react when you lift the hood and show 'em that big Lux motor. I'll bet nobody for miles around has a Cad powered Chevy truck. Bolt a 100 shot of plate nitrous on an otherwise stock Cad and you'd shread the rear tires.
Re: the flying toilet. It's a mechanical injection unit and as I said before, nobody has figured out how to make 'em work on the street. If you want to run one on a drag-only truck, go for it, they work great.
