I HAVE A 79 CAMARO 10 BOLT, TO INSTALL A NEW GEAR HOW DO I FIND OUT THE CURENT RATIO,AND DO I NEED TO CHANGE THE CARRIER LOOKING TO PUT IN A 410 OR 456 GEAR.

it should be stampted on the carrier. it will be 2 dif. #, divide the little # into the big #, or just count the ring gear teeth, count the pinion teeth and divide the small# into the big #, and that is your ratio.

a 4:10 set up will have a ring gear with 41 teeth and the pinion will have 10 teeth. can use the same carrier.
