Mustang Help
ive been having some problem with my shifting
in full throttle excceleration it somtimes dont wanna shift into 3rd gear. i can hit 1st and 2nd fast but 3rd gear allways grinds
i got the clutchs to the floorboards and it still takes a couple seconds to shift it in to 3rd..
it only does it once in a while not all the time
what could be my potential problem here?
got a Clutchmasters hydraulic clutch but travel is maxed. it wont shift into any gear unless you got the clutch to the floor.
my third gear is my power gear i can take 3rd gear o 105 mph at 5000 rmp's.. torque is the same in 1st second and 3rd gear. 4th drops off in torque a little, and 5th gear dont pull until about 145 mph....
how much do syncros cost....give me a price range
plus when i got from nuetral to revers is grings alot and wont shift
but when i put it in first and then quickley into reverse(with the clutch in of course) it will thift with no problem
are the valve bodies screwed up or what else could be the problem
one other question...my gas pedal is realy stiff..is it suppose to be that way or what?
on all my 125hp beaters the gas pedal is spongy....on the mustang its stiff....is it a sign of power or is somthing wrong with the throttle cable

Sounds to me that your clutch is not fully releasing. Hydraulic linkage, bad fork for the throw out bearing, or something. It just isn't right. Maybe the pilot shaft bearing is bad. But I don't think you can blow all the syncros at once.Duane S

dennyw said that the syncro might be worn out in 3rd gear
cuz its the power gear it wears out faster
is this right?

2 things to check no1 the plastic firewall clutch doo hicky u cant miss it its where the clutch comes thru the firewall and no 2 theres sumthin about the high rev shifts and the clutch suckin down from vac or lack of vac .just do a search and put those 2 things in .may not be the prob but these are definite problem areas!! my 86 5.0 vert has a smooth feel to the pedal not hard to push at all as a matter of fact I find it pushed down alot!! also I think u can goto almost 70 in second where u wearin out 3rd gear?Last edited by shawnlee28; 01-21-2005 at 10:32 AM.

This is all indication that you are not getting a clean clutch release. So start there. I think Denny is right about the third gear syncro being bad also.Duane S

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
