Looks like the build is coming along quite well, Billy!!!! Better be, looks like the supervisor has a pair of eyes that don't miss much!!!! Can't imagine building a car without a good dog and/or cat in attendance anyway!!!
to get a title for this beast i am photo documenting every step of the build and making a build book with reciepts next to every component of the car.
i want no questions about where did that frame come from?
or where'd ya get that tranny kid?
I've been following this build and I have a question on the rear end set up.
I noticed that the shocks appear to be going straight up and down ( 90* )
what is the purpose of them at 90* instead of at an angle ?
Your rear raidus bars, what are those made of ?
waiting for more updates !!
Beware. putting a ford motor in a chevy. The eng. swap police are probably tracking you down as we speak.:LOL::LOL::LOL:......ted
Ted is right, a pontiac would be much more acceptable:3dSMILE:.
Jack.
Thats why I put a Chevy motor in a Ford. Dont want the swap cops after me.:D:LOL:
America is all about speed. Hot, nasty, badass speed. -Eleanor Roosevelt, 1936
apparently one of the HENCHMEN asked J.P.
how is bill affording this build?( they know i dont make crap for money)
J.P.'s response?
he cant!
you know?
in my mind it is barely a chevy.
when i started that body was nothing but a small heap of thin, flimsy sheet metal that was too rusty to even bother throwing in the recycle pile.
this is what happened today before we put the engine and tranny in.
we wheeled it outside for some glamour shots.

Looks good Billy. I too use oven cleaner. The stuff works great.:3dSMILE:
I've been following your build and I have to say I like what I am seeing. Keep going, its coming together nicely.
Larry
thanks larry.
it wont be done this summer but i got plans for next year!
Great cleanup on the transmission, Billy!!!! Good old oven cleaner is still the best I've found for removing the crud stuff---
Hi Billy, awesome job on your pickup and I admire your attitude on prepared to learn from a skilled friend (no not the dog) on how to do things. Good on you to putting a Ford into a Chev, that will certainly get the knowledge police going!!! Ha I like that early Ford panel van in the photo, I would like that taking up space in my workshop.
the bed is in for good.
now the cab needs to be squared away and have a floor fabricated .
this project is taking months and it is purely the money shortage that is holding us back.
if i would have started with about 7000 bucks.
this would be done already.
Hi Billy zz - I found your thread while reading Itoldyouso's thread "Project 3K is Underway". It's lookin' good so far and I like the fact that you are putting a Ford in a Chevy.:D Lord knows there have been enough Chevys put in Fords (my cars included):HMMM:. Also, it's good to see new people getting involved; a lot of us here are old-timers and we need some new blood to whom we can "pass the torch".
One quick piece of advice - strap your rear radius rods to your rear axle housing. That is, wrap a piece of flat steel around the rear axle housing and weld it to the radius rods and all the way around the rear axle. Those things are subjected to constant flexing and vibration and they will eventually break at or near the welds. I have seen this happen twice, once was on my son's sedan! He backed out of the drive way, put the car in drive and heard a rapid clunking sound as he was leaving. The rear axle had partly broken loose, rotated upward about 20 degrees and it destroyed the rear u-joint. Thankfully, he wasn't doing one of his usual smokey burnouts or it would have thrown the rear end out from under the car. The other one I saw this happen to did exactly that; it spun the rear axle right out from under the car and did considerable damage. I have attached a pic of one of the straps I put on my roadster when I was building the rear suspension. If you've already done this, disregard this post...
Me also great thread .
floor is in and i got headlight cowls installed.
basically the front and rear ends are finished.
and
(this is the good part)
i scared up $1000 to give to the hotrod guru as incentive!
floor is done as well as the roof and bed.
front and rear ends done.
my old kelly full cab top off my willys jeep got transmogrified into the lid for my 27 chevrolet pick em up .
it took a lot of fancy cutting.

update:
last fall i put the 27 chevy in mothballs.
i have an extremely limited budget for this build.
i was having to wait till payday (i get paid once a month)
buy a part
install it
wait another 29 days
buy a part
install it
repeat.
it was tying up the shop by just sitting there all the time.
well i had a minor brainstorm.
i borrowed $1500 from a dear friend.
and i am renting my extra bedroom for 4 months for $1000
that will give me enough to finish this rod so i can drive it by late summer.
i need to plumb the brakes
new drums/cylinders/shoes
wireing
radiator
el cheapo seats
and glass in the front and back.
i am pretty excited about this.
woot!
i got seats from a subaru brat and they fit perfectly $5
two 10.5 x31 tires $10
i love yard sales!
i found some 2.75 gears for $40 online.
i will ask my builder guru if they will work.

Billy zz,
They'll work fine. My son has a 9" rear out of a '77 T-Bird in his sedan with 2.75 gears. They aren't great for launching at the drag strip, especially if you have tall tires, but they are a good highway gear for mileage. I have 2.79 gears in my coupe (8" Ford rear) and they are fine. Again, they are highway gears. If I was going drag racing on a regular basis I would try to find a lower gear, but for cruising around these are fine and give decent mileage.:3dSMILE: Both of our cars are fenderless '31 Fords on homebuilt frames with 350 Chevys.
cool cars dude!
Billy zz,
Glad to hear you are making progress, I know the problem of more time than money, and I wish I had more time.:LOL:
J Rob,
You don't mind if I call you J Rob do you.;):cool: What kind of milage are you getting with those gears?
Jack.
Nah. You can call me that. Or just J. Or Jim...:D
Anyway, I don't think my son has ever checked the mileage on his sedan, but my coupe gets about 18.5 on the road. Probably 16 or so around town. It's not great mileage, but I've had worse. My engine is a .030 over 350 with hypereutectic flat top pistons and some old open chamber (76 cc) LT-1 heads (1.94/1.60 valves). Intake is Edelbrock Torker II with an old Quadra-jet carb. The cam is a Crane Energizer. I don't remember the specs on it, but it was the most radical cam I could use and still keep the stock torque converter. The transmission is a bone stock Turbo 350 out of an early 70s Monte Carlo and the ignition is an old fashioned points/coil distributor.
Probably, if I put a dual plane manifold on it with a freshly rebuilt carb, HEI ignition and maybe a different cam, I could boost the mileage some...:HMMM:
