I suspect that early in the rod version of the trend, somebody adapted the style... the name... or both, to their rod project, and "Rat Rod" was born.
Yup. ratbikes were around for al least a couple decades before anyone ever heard of a ratrod. I built one myself back in 79. It had a 34 VLD engine and frame.
