Smile Ideas on rat work and anyone seen this rat on Overhauling overtime?

First time post, so I hope I do this right. I have a strong desire to build a rat. It is something that has been inside me since I was a kid. I am trying to get a group of guys together in my area who would meet once or twice a month to work on cars. Not necessarly mine. I would work for the enjoyment of just to work on hot rods. Are there anyother clubs or groups like this? Links. I would like to do this right. Second, has anyone seen this rat before, or have any picts like this one? I would like to do something like it. http://www.overhaulin.com/gallery.as...et=1&target=17

Did you mean the roadster that your link shows when you click on it???? If so, hardly a rat rod with the chrome axle, super nice suspension and pretty paint. A very nice car. If that is the trend in rat rods, I sure do like the direction rat rods are heading!!!!!

    Paul,

That cabriolet is a nostalgia car, for sure . . . but it certainly isn't a rat.

Saw that episode of Overhaulin... Possibly my personal favorite... Chip Foose and Rat Rod don't even belong in the same sentence!!!

Hi Paul, Welcome to the forum. No, you aren't doing anything wrong other than using the wrong terminlogy to describe what you want to build. We have discussed this problem before on here. The words "rat rod" are starting to replace the correct term which is "hot rod." A rat rod is one of the usually rusty, poorly constructed cars that the builders somehow feel represent what grass root hot rods are. Most hot rodders see the term as offensive, especially when someone refers to your car that way.

The rod you are referring to is a Chip Foose hot rod, and is undoubtedly very high dollar........Chip doesn't work for peanuts.

So, just start referring to these cars as hot rods, and you will be in the right ballpark. Just thought you should know.

I dunno, Dave. I really like Chip's version of a rat rod. I don't suppose he'll probably bother getting all the tattoo's and spiked hair, either!!!!!!

    Rat Rod= Junk.

Paul, here is an extreme example of a rat rod. Admittedly, an extreme example, but you will see the difference.

I think that project started out as a real rat. From the R&C article it was really poorly done and they had to do a lot of work to fix it right. Had a lot of body flex and really was not a safe car. So call this a rat rod to hot rod conversion!

Of course, that's just my opinion, I could be wrong!

I understand. I thank you for taking the time to explain. I still would like to see some more picts of the model a, or some like it. I think I would like to do something like it.
