Thread: flat black paint

i am new to this site so i'm sorry if this has been asked before.
what kind of paint do you use to get the black suede.
i dont want to use primer.
also i was wanting to paint flames over the black in a gloss
paint so what would be the best way to do that.
also on the flat black do you wet sand after painting or
wax, tell me all you guys know. i have not been able to get a
answer form anyother forum. thanks....shawn

Follow the same procedure you would for any paint job, just add flattener to get the suede look.You can find it @ any good auto body supply store. Then do the flames with a gloss clear coat.

Even worse is to lose an argument with yourself. I never argue with me cause I know I'll always have the last word, and that just makes things worserrrrr.

I like to wait til' I've had time to cool down B4 I approach myself after a "Disagreement". Most of the time I forget what I was fighting about Ann E. weigh .

do you clear over the whole paint job or just the flames?

If you want the black flat and the flames shinny you'll have to do them in 2 steps. Black with flattener flames without.

You can do it in any combination. I think I would spray it black, paint the flames, shoot it all with clear, then tape off the flames and spray the black with flattened clear. Then when you pull the tape off the flames you are done.

There nothing wrong with talking or argueing with your self I do it all the time at lease I know im going to win the argument

i get in a arguement with myself sometimes just so i can win. itll make your day.

You should ask Spraytech about this he knows lots. Two of my collision teachers said to use Matt Black paint when I wanted to paint this truck I almost got but I never got it so never got to do it. If you are painting straight over the black then you will need to pinstripe the flames or else you will have a edge on them that is higher than the base coat. If you are taping it off and not putting the flames over the flat black then just clear them when they are done, not the black or else you will have gloss.

The reason I dont reply to these suede finishes is because to do them right where moisture doesnt penetrate to the metal is more then just spraying a shiny paint job. Plus the flatening agent added to the clear breaks down the UV protection ! So why waste money?
To each his own on paint styles, but to me its just a waste of time to have an unfinished looking job.
I usually walk right by a rod that are done that way as it doesnt interest me, but thats just me, its why I say to each his own . I say potato, you say patato.....


I see these guys with their high tech "OLD FADED" paint jobs, and I say why? why waste so much time making it look like you found a 30 year old build ?
But then you sure can hide some rough ass body work .....LOL

Spray

Most people that do it for the REASON (not because they see it on TV) do it because that's how they used to be on low budget and were done in primer and the people just try and make their car look like as if it was built back then on a low budget, etc.

I used John Deere Blitz Black. About $25-30 a gallon at the tractor store.

PPG has a new product - Hot Rod Black. Costs more than Blitz Black but less than most automotive paints.

Flat black will not hide shody body work. Ya gota do your prep work if you want the finish to look good.
