Barb, sorry to hear of your painting problems, but you are far braver than I. I haven't picked up a paint gun in 30 years and wouldn't know where to start today for fear of screwing something up totally.

Candy Apple paint is probably one of the most difficult paint jobs to do. Some painters won't even do them, they don't want to be bothered with the problems and issues. Got to applaud you for trying. As the others have told you, you don't need a expensive high price gun to do a nice paint job. Sure they might make it a little easier and better, but spending that extra $400 - $500 for a gun doesn't make good sense if your painting is going to be limited to just a couple of jobs. Now if you decide you wanted to do it as a paid hobby then by all means go get a Iwata or a Sata gun.

I have been buying the gravity feed guns from Harbor Freight and getting good results from them. They are normally about $39.95, but they went on sale for $ 9.95 so I bought 5 of them
There are pro painters all over the world having neurological strokes after reading that post (and probably some right here).

thanks guys for all the details that i need to make this right. I did not have any fisheye or any other problem except the gun. i am looking at purchasing non sanding primer. is this stuff any good. it is made by the same company that makes the topcoat i have. the topcoat that applied correctly looks fantastic. has a great, deep shine to it and the website has alot of testimonials. also the paint and primer price is in my money range. here is the link to the primer.

    Hey Barb,
I painted my son's 69 Chevy truck with their Daytona Blue Mettalic and it came out pretty decent. Also did the interior of my truck with it.

I know Bob, you are right. I bought two of them and they worked so well I went back and bought 3 more. I realize someone like Jay (Hotrodpaint) wouldn't use them, and neither would I if I were doing this all day long for a living, but for us hobbyists they really aren't all that bad. Plus, if I am tired at night and just want to get out of the shop I just toss them in the garbage and don't really lose too much money.

Here is some stuff I painted with them..........good enough for me.
