    Hello from an old member

    Hi!
I guess I should at least say hello properly. I joined up several years ago and have browsed the forum for a good while. I have not made any posts because my car isnt really what most folk would call a hot rod. I've learnt a good deal from looking in and am somewhat in awe of the cars I see on here.

When I first joined my little MGB V8 was pretty much stock and I was dabbling with runs at Santapod and I was happy with getting low 16's on the strip. My car is a product of British Leyland and I got poo pooed from another hot rod forum even after I tricked her out a bit and got her looking quite cool in my eye's. Side pipes, Hilborn scoop and some sick cosmic 1970's slot mags.

I have to admit this put me off a bit. But I stuck in there and spent the last 6 years experimenting with nitrous in various forms. I have been modifying the car year on year and now I think that despite the fact its British its my own idea of the hot rod I always wanted from when I was a kid. And it fits in a single garage

I always loved the look of an MGB GT. And I loved the old skool American HotRod look. And part of my goal was to keep the Rover V8 engine in the car, albeit a bit tweaked.

So I now have an MGB GT with a Rover 4.6 V8 + TH350 + GMC 4/71 + NOS plate system + Moser shafts and a few other bits bolted on or made at home.

I took her out at the Retro Show at Santapod this year and ran 10.4 three times back to back. So I now at last have a 10 second car. This has spurred me on since July to build a fresh engine and make a new home brew direct port nitrous injection system to suppliment the blower.

I'm hoping to have the car on the dyno mid feb next year and be back out at the Retro Show to see if I can better the 10.4's in an attempt to run a 9 second pass.

The engine is a stock 4.6 with 90,000 miles on it, but the block has seen better days due to a load of head gasket failures. I have a new block and new cometic head gaskets as well as new forged pistons. So I'm happy that even if none of my new tweaks improves anything I will still be able to run low 10's on the 1/4 mile.

When I have the engine built I'll start on the rear suspension.
I made up some slapper bars but even though I got them wound up tight I still couldnt keep the front wheels on the ground when testing the new blower setup last July?

I will be fitting new rear uprated springs and dampers for 2012.

Here are some vids of the car from this years test runs.

Regards and a merry Christmas to all on the forum.

Welcome - anything that runs in the 10's is a hot rod in my book! I've got a lot of respect for those such as yourself that go outside the box!

Hope we can see more pictures and hear from you more often!

    Regards,
    Glenn

Welcome back! It's a Hot Rod despite what some short-sighted folks on other forums might say. Around here, Hot Rodding is still a matter of taking what you have and turning it into what you want....

That's a really nice pass! Car appears to leave hard and straight.

Welcome back!! That is one baaaaad BGT!! Had a MGB one time in a past life, bought for a song, played with hard and sold for what I paid for it. Nothing like yours, of course. That's a wicked fast ride.

I believe I'd have to call that a decisive win.

Here are some pics from the last 7 years.
First pic is my first attempt at making the car look cool. Edelbrock 500 + Hillborn scoop + custom made exhaust with pipes coming out in front of rear wheels. Full rubber bumper MGB body and rare Cosmic alloy rims..

Next pic is some years later with a Bug Catcher in place of the Hilborn and wolfrace alloys with BFG Drag Radials fitted...

And todays look with a lot of stuff removed from the body. TH350 fitted and a 4/71 blower + some fat rims with MT Drag slicks and fat arches to fit them under. This is the 10 second setup.

Regards and a happy Christmas to all.

It's just plain wicked!! I spent a year in England (1970) and never saw anything like this bad boy up in Lancashire County! All we had was Rovers, Minis and Woolseys with an occasional MG but nothing like yours. 'Tis quite a ride you've got Perry!

    Hello again folks!!
I've not been around for a good while due to work and some illness issues.

I got the car out of mothballs last July for the UK Retro Cars show and after 11 months off line she went out and ran right back in the 10.4's

I had some ideas about how to squeeze a little more out of the engine but I was waiting for the show I really wanted to run at. Dragstalgia at Santapod 2012.

So now I'm only 0.3 away from a 9 second timing ticket !!!

Sorry about the vid being a slo mo. It has a long boring part in between the launch and the finish line.

    Regards
    Perry
