Hot rod or original? Depends on what you want to use it for. If you want a car that you occasionally take to parades or car shows, then you may want to restore it. But if you want a car that you will probably be able to use on a more regular basis, hot rod it. The question is how often do you ever see original, restored cars just being driven around as cars? Almost never, and the reason for that is because most of them are terrible to drive by todays standards. They are underpowered, crude suspension wise, noisy, and not suited for todays modern highways and higher speeds.

A hot rod, on the other hand, can be modernized with better suspension and powertrain to the point where you actually WANT to jump in it and drive it long distances, or just around town. They move and feel totally different.

If a person wants, modern conveniences like air, cruise, and plushy interiors make them as comfortable as any car on the road today.

As for value of a restored version, I am no expert in these, but I can't see it being any greater than one with correct modifications, turning it into a hot rod.
