Figured I should show what we have got done to the El Camino so you all wont think I'm just sitting around on my duff. The video is old.....last year (Having trouble loading it.). The pictures are a couple months old. This weekend the plan is to get the fenders and doors painted. On call next week. Then install fenders so I can make sure the fiberglass hood fits right. Then the next week I'm on vacation. Should be able to get the drivers quarter done. Passenger side is ready. Then the ominous inner bed. Lots of finish sanding to do. But maybe....just maybe I'll have it all in paint by the end of vacation. I hope.
By the way....nice seat Dave.

The Elky is coming out great!!! What's the color(s) going to be??
Thanks. It been a long road. Dustin decided on black so my body work has to be as good as I can get it. My first paint job was a Grand National but I was able to cheat a little on it because I was using a high solids urethane. Sprayed 6 coats of clear and ultra fined for better part of two weeks. This one I hope to not touch after I'm done.
Dustin decided on the trim delete. Took some work getting the tops of the bed rails flat. I was skeptical at first but now I kind of like the way it turned out. One bad thing now.....nowhere to break the paint. Have to paint from the cab top all the way back in one shot now. Hope he doesnt scuff anything with hopes of touch up work. LOL's. We installed a steel piano hinge for the smugglers bin (in the bed) and an electric actuator. Works pretty good but the weight of the lid (after bed lining the inner side) made us have to add a couple of hood lift rods to take some effort off the actuator. He also wanted the shaved doors and one piece glass. I added a manual pull hidden inside the front inner fender...just in case. And I kept the inside manual for a quick escape. I found some real neat stainless steel hood pins (actually uses keys like a pop machine) and recessed them into the hood. Eager to see how they turn out.
I'll try to get some more recent pictures up soon.

wow nice job on the El Camino! He must be real excited to get behind the wheel. Nice body prep!
Wow, what a great first car! You're making some serious dad points on this one, David.
Stovens. Yes, Dustin is just dying to drive it. He's only got to drive it once....almost 3 years ago. LOl's.
Falconvan. Its actually not his first. His first is the 91 Jeep I gave him. I get it back though when the car is done. Figured I'd better keep it for when he has car trouble.
Thanks both of you!
Tonight I was back on the drivers side quarter. Man those suckers are long. I figure at least 3 more coats X2 of high fill and it'll be reeaalll close. Also installed the grill insert over the frame assembly. Looks pretty good. Not perfect but I like it.

Actually took some time today to work on the bed cap for my '71 Ford pickup.....It was of course not made to fit my truck so I had to shorten it and narrow it. Got some primer on the inside of it now and hopefully will have time this week to set it back on the box and get some hinges put on it. Got the tailgate smoothed out and sealer on it. Once the bed cover is hinged and latched I'll be able to paint them and do the floor of the box with some bedliner....If I'm not careful, might even get to drive the thing this year!!!!
Main project for the week will be to finish up the wiring on the '36 Plymouth... Got to get it done so Walt can get in some cruising time yet this year.
Hate to think about it, but it's almost time to start getting my winter projects put in place!:eek: With the girls here now I don't see any Texas for me this winter, but for them it doesn't really matter what I have to postpone or just flat give up on.
That's cool, Dave. The girls are lucky to have a paw paw like you. If you start shedding projects, keep the chopped Bronco II in the mix; that thing was looking pretty cool.
Actually a chance that the Bronco Deuce might actually make it into the garage this winter---I keep thinking what a fun bracket racer it would be!!!! I have a friend doing the laser cut deal for me on brackets for rear ends, suspension pieces, etc so that when I actually get time to do some work on my own stuff I'll have some of the pieces ready!
Love to see some pics of both the truck and Bronco 2 Dave! Those girls are lucky to be in your life!
Here's my '39 Olds. I've been working on it since 1998. I call it a "Work In Progress". (A lot of work, but not much progress). It has a 350 Olds engine from a '72 Delta 88, and a 200 4r trans from an '86 Pontiac Bonneville. The rear end is the original '39 Olds unit with 4:33 gears. No interior yet, except for bucket seats from a 1999 Montana mini van, and no side glass.
It's not much to look at, but I've had a blast building it! It runs and drives fine and draws a lot of lookers at our local cruise.
