I kinda figured that reconnecting the tranny cooler lines to the radiator was gonna be the hardest thing for me (because of limited space, vision and old body) and I WAS CORRECT. It ate my lunch but it's connected and I'm gonna let the feller that's doing my exhaust and lowering block removal take a look at it and ?hopefully? make it better.
Here's a pic showing 3 things.
1.the part of the shroud that had to be removed because of fan interference
2.a slight crimp in the tubing (been there a while I imagine, cause I didn't do it)
3.and last but by no means least the end of a pull tie that is holding the closest line in place (Barro Bros. Curse prolly?)
All I know is if it holds water, cools and shifts enuff to get me to the mechanics next week, then this job is FINISHED.

Nee help, fellers !
I put half of the coolant back in the radiator and then cranked it - - - had problems almost immediately.
1. it started puking out the overflow tube almost immediately but finally stopped
2. when it finally started warming up, it did it FAST and was climbing into 200 when I shut it down
3. after shutting it down the top radiator hose was starting to get warm and the bottom was cold but I could still hold my hand on the top tank
4. I imagine that the thermostat has to open before it will allow me to put the rest of the coolant in -?right?
5. the fan is sucking air thru the radiator just fine or it seems to be
6. ALL I know to do is wait until it cools down and see if I can get the rest of the coolant in the system????????
Any suggestions? I'm at a total loss - - - mainly because it has NEVER warmed up this fast before and ?I thought? that everything I have done was to make it cool better. It could be my "pea brain" but I don't think so.
HELP????????????????????????????????????.

Thanks Charlie, I'm wondering if I can mount this one in the space between the grill and the panel that hold the radiator? Will it get enuff air from moving down the highway to do the job mounted like that?
Look at post #332 (the pic from the front) and there's an area to the left of the rad hole with three vertical slots - - - - I was thinking about mounting it there??????????????????????Last edited by MelloYello; 07-19-2013 at 08:55 AM.

I would move it to a place where it is protected and receives sufficient air flow. If you decide to put ac in the car the ac condenser will need to go in front of the radiator.Ken Thomas

In post #208 it appears that the radiator has a tranny cooler in the bottom tank---flush it while you have the rad out and reconnect it and toss the aux one in the trash

Jerry, I sure do like that option best - - - when I put a new radiator on my '55/350 I used the radiator to cool the tranny so I'm gonna try that - - - any suggestions as to the best way to flush it? Can I use the water hose? While we're on that subject, how do I tell which tranny line goes to what connection in the radiator tank or does it matter?Last edited by MelloYello; 07-19-2013 at 12:52 PM.

I wouldn't sweat it. Once you optimize the airflow through the radiator, the small amount of heat coming from that little cooler won't amount to much.
But if you're looking to change it, then I'll agree with Jerry.. (did I just say that???
) set it up behind the radiator and you'll be the finest kind!
OH, now I see we have a trans cooler!! Open the fittings and blow a little (keyword LITTLE!) compressed air and see what comes out. If needed flush with some new clean trans fluid!!
If you're having radiator shop check / clean the core, ask them to pressure test the cooler!!!Last edited by 34_40; 07-19-2013 at 01:19 PM.

Gotcha, I sure hope I can use the one at the bottom of the radiator and get the other out of the way so maximum air can go thru the core for the engine. It looks real clean in the two tranny line holes and the fins inside are real shiny but that might not mean anything. Been modifying the shroud so it fits around everything so I should be mounting the fan and cutting the BIG HOLE in the shroud tomorrow sometime baring the dang heat. Thanks gentlemen and Mike too. Got an early start at 5:30am (cooler then - well let's say it wasn't 95 degrees yet) I had cut the shroud to fit the radiator yesterday evening and that took some time and patience.

First thing was to get the center hole for the fan cut to the proper size and location.

Hole is cut and shroud and fan are temporarily installed so I can measure the distance for the spacer size. Turned out to be 2" and I had figured more. (pleasant surprise too)

Got the shroud and fan installed and everything connected back up except for the lower radiator hose and the tranny lines. (tranny cooler in the radiator flushed out real nice so I'm hoping the auxillary cooler won't be needed)

The fan sits inside the shroud about an 1" overall but I had to cut the bottom of the shroud back pretty far because the fan was hitting it but approx 75% of the shroud is correct in relationship with the fan. Don't think I'll climb under there anymore today - - - maybe in the morning I can finish the lower connections and fill it with coolant for a (fingers crossed and small prayer) leak and cooling test.
Have a great weekend, Y'all

Em, use a line wrench to hook up the tranny lines to the radiatorKen Thomas
