New 40 Ford body from Ford

All you Ford guys may already know this but I just found out (on our local news) that Ford is making brand spanking new steel 40 Ford components!

Pretty impressive I'd say and it would be a great resto-rod platform - especially with a new Coyote 5.0 liter drive train. This is assuming that one has a boat-load of money, but hey I always say, "It's better to shoot for the stars and end up with your feet in the tree tops than to shoot for the tree tops and end up with your feet in the mud."...

I'm impressed - just think about things lining up and fitting and knowing it's a real steel 1940 Ford!

I'm sure they'll need some tweaking, pingin' and dingin' but it sure would be fun working with a brand new shell instead of a rusted out old hulk!!! Yeah, lot's of money, but it also takes a lot of money to search out, transport, and rebuild and old hulk, too..... I don't have the money for one right now, but I still keep looking at the Ford licensed '67 Mustang fastback.... sure would be a fun way to build one, be it a Horse or the Coupe!!!!!! Probably just comes down to a question of value and everyone has to decide that for themselves....

This is the same body that Bob Drake started and Dennis Carpenter is now selling. Ford just allowed/licensed Carpenter to use their logo....er, after a little green exchanged hands. The car in the movie was in the ford booth at SEMA. Not too bad a body, ripples were minimal. Have not heard if original stuff fits 100%.

I helped a friend prep one of the Dynacorn Mustang bodies. Nothing was a 100% perfect fit, but then the tolerances from the factory weren't that great on the originals, either... Actually the doors and hood especially fit up as good as a lot of the re-pop panels I've put on cars over the years. Big improvement was, it's all new metal and almost fun just working with it!!!!

Right on Dave - I'd love to build either one and when I win the Power Ball, I'll give you a call and we can collaborate, eh - maybe do a big block as well as one with the Coyote 5.0 and a six speed

Be my luck the Mayans are right and I'll have the winning numbers - for the 22nd!!

    Regards All,
    Glenn

I saw the one that was put together for the Street Rodder Road Tour car this year - complete with a new Coyote 5.0. Very nicely done car - and much better job of finishing it then the '50/'51 Chevy a couple of years ago. The builder chopped the top an inch or so, totally unnoticeable and IMO, a wasted effort beyond saying that it was something that could be done.

Yeah Glenn, there's still one more Horse in my future sometime! I want to do up a "track day" car that's reminiscent of the old A and B Production Shelby and Mustang racer's from back in the 70's, but upgrade the brakes, suspension, engine, and drivetrain with modern technology. I keep thinking it's going to be one of the new re-pop bodies, what a fun way to start on a Mustang and not have to mess with all the rusted, tweaked, and twisted torque boxes and substructures to contend with!
