I was misreading the schematic. I see now that the ballast resistor is bypassed for start.

I think the satin black will look great - I might have missed this already mentioned in a post but are you planning on keeping the flames with the satin black or just going straight up satin black?

My plan for now is to paint it gloss black and keep the same flames but change the color to silver, white, and blue I think. If I run short on time, it might get the satin black. For now it'll just get single stage unless I get far enough to get base clear.

I have an unrealistic goal to drive this car to the start of power tour in June. Quit laughing.

Mikep, thanks for that detailed info. I might just do this so if there is an issue on the road, I can walk into a parts store and get parts for the distributor.

Your 1940 Ford Deluxe looks great, I am in the process of restoring a 1940 Ford Pickup. The body is all steel except for the rear fenders which are fiberglass. I really want to find a set of Steel rear fenders for it. If anyone reading this has any options or anything used please let me know. Thanks Paul

I have some sedan rear fenders but I don't know of any for a pick up. Sorry.

Well, the '38 frame is a donor now. I got the front of it cut off. Next step is to cut mine off and get the cuts made to fit the 38 fronts on my frame. I guess first, I have to get the rails stripped of the X member pieces and suspension cross member.

Maybe I missed something, Ryan, but just curious why you didn't just use the '38 frame and make your modifications to it rather than cut the front off of it and weld to your existing frame?

Randy, the 38 frame had some rot through I found after I got it home. The lower flange was very thin on the rh rear rail just ahead of the rear axle and has what looks like a crack but is a line from thin metal. I figured by the time I fixed that, boxed this frame, and made an X member again, I'd have a whole lot more time in the 38 frame than my 40 frame. All I have to do to the 40 frame is cut off the front rails and reattach the fronts of the 38. Once I get the cuts made, and get the 38 rails lined up, then I can weld them on. I'll be ready to box it and then I can start on the new MII cross member.

Yeah, Ryan, I figured it was something like that but I just hadn't seen where you talked about it. I wish I had a few extra thousands laying around because there's a guy out here who wants to sell a TCI rolling chassis which is already setup with 4 wheel disc brakes, hydraulic clutch & brakes, 9" rear, etc. But, I can't swing it just yet. It would sure save me a lot of time & work trying to make my chassis pretty!

I got the inner pieces of the frame removed from the outers. Now I need to find some one to blast the outer rail pieces, or break down and find my small blaster and do it myself.

25 years ago I built my own blaster out of a discarded gas water heater. It didn’t leak but they had stopped using it because it didn’t work so good (built up calcium). I tuned it upside down cut a hole in it for a 2” (2 ½ ?) pipe bung. Before I welded that in I ran a rod thru the hole to break it calcium up and clean it out (hanging it upside down from the cherry picker).

I added a couple of wheels and a handle. I ordered the sand control valve, strainer hose and nozzle from a sand blast place (in Ohio I think). It’s kind of a monster and can hold up between 300 and 400 pounds of sand/media. It’s ugly as sin but sure works good.

Well, some good news! I found my sand blaster, and the new package of tips for it. It was in the shop, right by a walk through door. It was actually put away. That's nuts.

Last night I was reminiscing of my child hood remembering how I used to build lego models of this car. For what ever reason, I always built it with a hood scoop. As I was envisioning the old lego car, I saw a late 70's T/A that had a shaker hood scoop. It's funny that shaker scoop is the near same shape as the scoop I had on the lego 40. Is it destiny? So I'm seriously considering putting a shaker hood scoop on top of the dual quads on the hemi. What do you guys think? At first I didn't want to cut a hole in my hood. But if I had a supercharger, it wouldn't be a question. I think it will look cool and help set the car apart from most other 40 Fords.

I'm not sure finding a sandblaster is good news, I will be doing a bit of that Saturday and I'm sure looking forward to it as always.

Go for the boyhood dream of a scoop! If done right, it really works.
I too am watching for an extra hood to punch a hole in, already have the scoop.
Remember a 40 Willys is so close to 40 Ford sheet metal looks... Look there.
