Governor Rick Perry's office forwarded your inquiry about House Bill (HB) 890 to our agency for a response.

I understand that one of our representatives, Tim Taylor, contacted you bye-mail regarding the implementation of this bill. The bill authorizes the issuance of new "Custom Vehicle" and "Street Rod" specialty plates and requires our agency to create a safety inspection program for the vehicles. The bill also allows the model year and make the vehicle resembles to be listed on the vehicle title.

I apologize that we do not have a firm date on when we will be able to implement the new law, but I want to assure you our agency is hard at work to ensure that the new license plates and inspection program are put into place. If you need additional information or have other questions or comments, you may contact Tim Taylor at (512) 465-7313 or bye-mail at Tim.Taylor@TxDMV.gov. Thank you.
When I am assigned a project, I normally set a timeline that is agreeable with my boss. Apparently Texas DMV doesn't work that way. I thought I would pass the information along anyway.

The downside is that until the inspection program is finalized, street rods have to be licensed/titled according to the old process.

The upside is that it's still about 20 months until I move.
