    Pro53 Sorry I missed your question!

     



    Pro53, so sorry I missed your question earlier about the corvair steering arm. Yes I had the speedway chrome short steering arm strip where it meets the steering shaft. It left me with no steering in front of the shop (thankfully there instead of at 55 MPH somewhere) Then the second one they sent me snapped in half while pops was driving the car one night. THANK GOD HE WAS NOT HURT!

    I found an original Corvair arm off of Ebay, painted it up and have been fine ever since. The stock Corvair arm is longer than the Speedway unit so if ground clearance is an issue be careful. Pops might chime in here but Speedway was going to come out with a forged steel steering arm after they had so many issues with the one I had breaking.

    What arm did you end up using?

    I have the chrome one. I bought it about 3yrs ago. I guess it going in the trash Thanks though. I have all forged stuff but then had some of it chromed. I have a stock arm. Guess I guess it might need to paint it and put it on. I wonder who makes a forged one? Thanks for informing me.

    look in my picture you can see my arm, the steering rod isnt bolted on yet. Looks like your old one?

    Yes that "looks" like the original arm I ordered from Speedway that broke twice

    Your life is worth more than a steering arm. In my opinion either of those speedway units would be great and those are the ones they replaced my faulty arm with later. Did you chrome arm you have now come in a "mr roadster" box? Mine did.
    Heres a pic of my t when the arm first went on.

    I am thowing that one in the trash when I take it off. Will buy a forged unit. Luv the color on your t bucket. My 53 ford truck was similar in color. When I repaint it , will be the same color. Your bucket is awesome, so is your dads. Would you run a forged chrome one?

    Thanks man. It is Ford Grabber blue and has always been a favorite of mine I like my T a bunch thanks for the compliments. It never fails to put a smile on my face.

    I would have no problem running that chrome forged unit at all and in fact would have run it if it were available in 2007. It just was not an option for me then. My car has alot of chrome and polish too and I may add that chrome forged arm too for a bit of bling on there. Once again love your A, awesome car.

    Tonight Don and I were at the shop together and talked about the steering arm you are running from Speedway. They were buying these from Total Performance, and as Don mentioned, the spines on the first one rounded right off after driving the car 20 feet. We figured we did something wrong, ordered a new one. I was testing it out one night after installing the new one and at about 35 mph I heard a loud "snap" and lost steering. I was in the slow lane of a 3 lane road, and luckily the car veered off to the right and I ran it off the shoulder. I called Dan who went to the shop ,removed the original Corvair arm from my 23, and brought it to me so we could get the car home.

    I called Speedway the next day and they reacted immediately. They tested some from their stock and they broke easier than they should have, so they pulled every one from inventory and refused to sell any more. They also refunded the money for both arms we had bought.

    Here are some pictures of the arm after it snapped.
