Wow!!!! Really nice.......Boy is that an understatement.
Thanks... the workbench and rollaway cabinets came from Home Depot last year, they were discontinuing them and i got the whole set as a package... worked out nice, as I was planning on building a workbench into the wall, but this made my life much simpler.
Did you do the floor yourself? What kind of material is it? Do you think it would hold up well using floor jacks & stands?
Yes, I did the floor (and most everything else) myself... Its Armstrong VCT tile, the stuff like you see in Walmart or supermarkets... You gotta have very smooth concrete for it to lay down nicely, and you need to wax it to make it shiny, but its pretty tough... I've been working on my deuce hiboy all winter doing some various "small" projects to it, with no real problems to the floor besides some scuffs... I plan to strip the wax this summer and re-coat it... The worst part about it is the white tile get stained where the tires rest... i didn't realize this til it was too late, but if you are using the white tiles, put something under your tires when the car is parked.
Just about all done :HMMM: Attachment 20753
Any one planning on building a new house, if at all possible, I would suggest a three car garage. You will not be disappointed. Don Meyer is right. We built 10 years ago and even though I have a 30 x 50 two story barn with a lot of car parts I wish I had that third section garage. John
I've been trying to build a shop for two years now, but the neighbours just have to be themselves. They keep rallying the troops to twart my efforts. They even have people sending in mail with objections who don't even qualify to argue my application.
I am applying for a variance in height. I live on a slope with a greater elevation loss than 25% and therfore I qualify for an exemption. This would allow me to build a two story 1350 sq. ft. building.
I've gone to the board twice now and both times they support my application, but in each case I had seven letters of objection. Go figure. I love my neighbours 'bout as much as I love their dogs. lol!
If it wasn't for my neighbors I'd have a great neighborhood!!!
Why is it when YOUR doing something you need the "friendly" neighbor becomes so unfriendley but when they'd like a variance they become sooooo accommodating??
WOW....neighbors.......best of luck on the garage build.

The thing about neighbors who give you trouble is that no one is without sin, so when they screw up it becomes payback time. I at one time had neighbors who would call code enforcement all the time on us for working on cars in our own garage. So I got the code book (about an inch thick) and everytime they would break some code I was on the phone.......and I didn't do it anonymously, I WANTED THEM TO KNOW WHO DID IT. :D :D I would then politely as the neighbor " how does it feel? Every time you do something wrong I am going to have them coming to YOUR door !" :D :D It didn't take long for them to start leaving us alone.
Don
you people got some awsome garages , i need to get busy over here yall's make mine look like a hobo dump:D

after about a 30 year career at building cars on the ground -grass and gravel under a tree limb i finally built myself a shop .. here `im putting a starter on the 351 bean .. my shop will hold about 4 cars .. i did the mustang here several years ago but lately i`m just too tired and decapitated .. i mean decrepit to do anything ..i`m making an effort to get in shape and try to git another project going .. man the screen is huge ..

Thought I'd share pictures of my shop. Not as nice as some of the ones I've seen here but it works for me. It 40' X 40' with 12' walls. I will eventually get a lift or 2.The finished cars are on the left side and where I work is on the right.

Your garage looks great but it's already full. Oh, that's what some of the lifts are for. j/k You should be very proud. I have to ask what's under the covers? You have quite a stable.
Bill
dude......no shame in your game. I wouldn't appologise for anything. The garage is kick ass!!

That's awesome. Only thing your missing (unless I just dont see it and you have this already) is a nice car lift. :D Very nice vehicles for sure though. Mind telling us roughly how much the building itself cost including the slab on concrete but not including labor?
Yes, I'm saving up for one or two lifts. Two lifts would be great. The building, slab, electrical, plus labor (I don't have the figure not including labor) was $30K in 2003.Quote:

From the time I made my application for a permit, till today, is three years. Oh No, I got it on nine eleven. lol.
Now all I have to do is find a way to post pics, he he he. I am pouring my footings in the morning.
I just found out yesterday that where I live, Morgan Co, Tn that there are NO building codes!! :D , they said I can build anything, any way I want! Cool :D ... That does explan a few houses/shacks around here.
I do remember a house that had a red neck a car lift. :HMMM:
Pat
Too bad the price of steel went through the roof lately, lol.
(Hmm, no picture.)
A friend of mine built a steel shop last spring. He held off buying the ceiling until now because he wasn't ready for it and didn't want it setting around & gettin' damaged. The ceiling that cost 1,600 last spring now costs 2,900.
I recently just talked my wife into letting me convert the garage into more of a display area for my baby (67' z28 Camaro), and a place for me and my buddies to take pics of our cars. I went with this company called American Garage, I think they are out of North Carolina or something...(www.americangarage.com)...I highly recomend them
Nice looking floor Race Deck! I wish I could do my trailor floor and/or garage floor in it but I cannot afford it unfortunately. :(
I'd be afriad to work in some of those shops:eek: I'd spend a week cleaning up and shining things:CRY:
Another couple of shots of the garage.

Some of these garages look like my "cleanick" wife designed them as a showroom. A little too clean for my adventures. One day with me in there and it would never look the same.;)
Granted the topic was garages not necessarly mechanic garages. I will be adding a 30x40 garage near the house in a few months and always view these discussions with interest.
dmw56, if you dont mind me asking, what do you do as a living?
I love the shop setup, size and the vehicles you have. I'd love to one day have that many cars that are that far along. I have close to that many but none even near completion or drivable....YET.
I'd like to build a shop like yours in the next 3 to 4 years though on a piece of land out here.
I am an Environmental Scientist. No, really and stop laughing! I'm saving the planet by recycling old iron.
I have 1 other completed car, a 65 Rambler in the 3 car attached garage with my wife's cars and 3 others projects waiting stored outside. A 1935 Plymouth 2 door sedan, 1954 Studebaker PU, and a 1938 Chevy PU.
The shop is 40 X 40 with 12' high walls so someday I can get a couple of 4 post storage lifts and a 2 post lift.
[B]dmw56[B] Love your rides! especially the rat rod truck
Nice garage DMW!
I couldn't park a pedal bike in our garage. Blame my parents for hording stuff in there and throwing everything in there :D

Super nice shop DMW. When are you going to get back on the Stude?
I have submitted my bill to the City of Seattle for the requested modifications. Once I have recieved my money I will return the truck! ;)
Yeesh,I hope ya dont want me to break the bad news to Mike Tripae down here in New Zealand that someone in Seattle wants his horny old 32 hemi powered truck shipped back up to them..we have enough problems with the natives down here trying to reclaim stuff...:D
