    Custom Car Insurance Companies?

I have a customer building a really nice Shelby Mustang clone. He wants to insure it for what is invested, but since it isn't an original car, it will not appraise well.

Is there a company that will let you set a reasonable value, but one that does not match the market value...and let you pay the necessary premiums for that value?

Both Grundy (been a little more price competitive the past few years) and Hagerty will do agreed value policies. They will often work from an owners set of pictures, description, and claim of value as long as it seems "reasonable". On the last 7 or so cars I've insured I only had to have an appraisal once, and fortunately for me a well done one accompanied the car, though I had to update the pictures when I repainted it.

My Son has Hagerty on his T bucket, and they only wanted pictures of it and the garage where it is kept, and a few other minor items. They then asked him what it was worth and the policy was written up at that figure. He said he can also go back and renegotiate it if he makes any changes that up the value. I think he said it was something like $ 300 or thereabouts a year.

That's pretty inexpensive Don! I'll have to check them out.

I have Grundy and have been with them for about 4 years. They recently up'd the value on my 64, which is kool. And I didnt even ask for it. All I had to do is fill out an app and send it with a few pictures.

i have been with chrome for 10 years. i pay 184 a year on each car with 20,000 dollars coverage. they send me a form on each car every year, if i want to raise my coverage but it cost more as you go up. i figure they were old junk to start with so why pay all that money that i could put on another car. if i wreck they will pay me to fix it. jonathanDSC00396.JPG

Glad this thread came up as I have to transport my car about 100 miles to get the upholstery finished before licensing but need some coverage while in transport and at the shop. I got a 'winged' quote from both Hagerty and Grundy at the Right Coast show in July. Grundy was about 2/3rds the price of the other ~$400 vs ~$600/yr (remember, NY State - the land of high prices!!) based on a $40K value. Have there been any problems with either - claims, usage as I'll probably not wander too much from these two (maybe Taylor) and for sure don't need any mile or distance limits?

IC2..I live in Rochester, NY. Like I said I've had Grundy for 5 years. My annual premiums are $205 for a $30K agreed value. Thank God the only claim I had to file was for a broken windshield which they promptly paid to the vendor. Ray Sands Glass in Rochester has an account with them. Yhey said they have never experienced a problem with Grundy.
