I used the spring also,I did add a nut and sleeve on the door jam. This is used in the electrical industry for water proofing electrical wires. It is smooth and made of aluminum. It(SPRING) travels real nice, and you can polish the sleeve.Cost about 1.00 total ea.The key to mounting is mount the sleeve as close to the inside cab as posibble, creating a larger radius for the spring to travel. You can screw the sleeve directly into the door jam and eliminate the nut if you have a space problem.

I used rubber fuel line on the panel truck (40 chevy). Mounted the jam side solid and let the door side slide in & out. Slight curve from being on a spool was just enough to line up with the door hinge geometry. I had electric windows & solenoid door openers. All the wires fit fine and I never had a problem with it."PLAN" your life like you will live to 120.
