Not a lot to post tonight. I started sandblasting the two front wheels I am going to use. A long time ago I bought 4 of these, and used two on the front of my '27. I've been dragging these two around for years, figuring I would have a use for them someday.
What they are is either '48.'49, or '50 Mercury wheels ( I can't remember which) but they are one of the old hot rodders favorites because they were one of the few (maybe only) 15 inch wheels that had the 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern like the early Fords had. All the other early Ford wheels were 16 inch, and this was a way to get 15 inchers on early hot rods.
I remember I picked the best two of the four for the '27 all those years ago, so I wasn't sure how these would clean up. But, after a while in the sandblast cabinet they came out really nice. I was surprised. Only a couple of small dings in the lip to dolly out, but otherwise, no rust or other issues. I have to take the slicks to the tire shop tomorrow to dismount them so I can paint the rear rims. I was going to do it on my $39.95 Harbor Freight tire machine, but Dan reminded me how tough they were to mount, so I think I will find a tire shop that does custom wheels and go there tomorrow AM.
All I have to post tonight is this one picture of the two wheels, one blasted and one not yet done. Maybe the next picture will be of orange wheels.
