Thanks Don---I was looking at your sons post over on the HAMB, and the acorn don't fall far from the Oak---You are both doing great work. I was looking at post #1902, trying to figure out how your son got the reveals in the panels immediately behind the doors to be such a great match for the front doors---then it hit me---He used the rear doors to make those panels up, right???

Thank you Brian, really nice words coming from someone who does such exceptional work himself.

No, but you are close. He bought a new front door skin, and it gave him enough metal to cut it vertically in half, and he used those pieces to make the rear panels. The problem with using the old rear doors is that they are just slightly too narrow at the bottom, where the fender normally comes down, so he would have had to add metal there to get the width he needed.

I am not sure if he bought a tudor or fordor skin, but at the 27.5 or 29 inch width, it gave him lots more metal to work with, and the reveals were a perfect match to his doors. Plus, it gave him brand new metal to work with.

Don, your sons has to make you proud with the quality of work each has done and doing. They had to have a great teacher in their father. To be able to see the car then create it without any written plans is pure talent.

Thanks Brad. Yes, I really am proud of both of them......for lots of reasons. They've both turned out to be very good people, and my best friends.

Bobby: You just jogged my memory on what he had to do to get both reveals. You are right, the skin only comes from the top beltline down. I remember seeing him cut the top reveal out of the rear portion of the body, and graft it onto the new skin to make it as tall as it needed to be. He cut it out of the part of the body right before it makes the final curve at the back. He commented at the time that he lucked out because that section was exactly big enough to supply that part of the skin.

For some reason, the skin suppliers just do them from the reveal down.

Don, that's the same way I have to do my doors. If you ever wonder about your original budget, don't bother. I've already spent $2900. and don't have enough to put together a roller yet. Hank

Yeah, but when you think about it, what does $ 30K buy you anymore in a new car? I would rather be driving a neat hot rod, like yours Brian, than some new car that you can't tell one from another anymore. I realize everyone should have a regular car to drive for dependablity and all, but for a second fun car, a hot rod tends to make every trip an experience. Even going for a loaf of bread becomes a one man car show.

Hi Steve, welcome to the forum. Let me save you about 129 pages of reading.........I RAN OVER THE BUDGET A LITTLE. Just couldn't help myself, and went on a buying spree.

How far over? I honestly don't know as I stopped keeping track a long time ago. If I had to guess, I would think in actual money I have spent maybe $8 -$10 K so far. That could be high or low, and also takes into account some parts I had, but placed a value on just to keep it somewhat honest.

There, that's the Readers Digest version.........saves a whole lot of reading.

The funny thing is how the little things add up. Sandpaper, grinding discs, bolts, paper suits, thinner, primer, etc, etc. It seems every day when I go to the shop I throw some money in my pocket for these little purchases, and when I get home at night it's all gone.

I know my big expenditures now will be the body prep and paint, parts to make the engine run like a starter and alternator, an interior, and misc stuff like brake lines and braided hoses. Then comes the millions of items like radiator hoses, Lokar throttle and kickdown cables, etc.

I may have to go back to work sooner than I wanted if this keeps up.

    Don
