    We just finished the last of the corn on Saturday and it was around 27* with winds in the 30s-40s. Once the sun went away it dropped into the teens and none of the pit augers wanted to work at first. I know they're glad to be done but now it's a race to finish ground work and applying anhydrous.

    Most are getting finished up combining around here, too. This is one of those years that I'm really glad I don't farm anymore!

    2nd snow dropped here friday night!!!..feel bad for the farmers around this area. Fall was Rain followed by more rain, then rain again! Tractors couldn't get thru the fields! Now with the colder weather at least they can get onto their fields and harvest!
    I thought I knew a lot, until I had teenagers!

    we had hell this year. rain in spring screwed up hay cutting. then no rain during summer . got a good rain at the end to give folks a good cutting for winter feed but the army worms destroyed a lot . never seen them so bad .

    It's been a tough year all over for agriculture! It's been so wet around here, lots of hay got rained on when it was down and now combining corn and beans for many has been a matter of pulling the combine out of one mud hole so that it can go get stuck in the next one! I'd guess hay especially is going to get quite expensive this winter.

    coastal round bales here are 95 to 150 . i sold the last of my 2016 hay for 50 . everybody sold off herds during summer rather than feed . going to be big bucks to restock .

    My garden survived the frost, and it looks like I'll have at least another week above freezing.

    I'm betting the hay market will be rising especially with more fires in California. There are a lot of dairies in that area if I remember correctly. I just helped my mom haul her winter supply home on Saturday. Hopefully her 12 bales will get her through. Currently large round bales are bringing $65/bale. Of course it did more winter activity during all this too. Haha

    In the 80's when the big drought hit in Montana and Wyoming, we were hauling hay out west, some of the prices then were outrageous with big rounds and squares bringing crazy prices of $150.00 each and up! "Idiot cubes" (aka small square bales) of good alfalfa were even higher! I was still involved with farming then and remember some made more money off hay then they did corn and beans that were dirt cheap for a bunch of years there!

    Ryan, is that a tri axle trailer.? I'm curious what kind of weight is/was on there.

    Mike, yes, it is a 3 axle trailer. Each axle is rated for 8k. The trailer used to be a pintle hitch trailer that was used to haul a massive trencher. It got broke nearly in half in the late 90s. The original owner had it sent to a shop and had it fixed. When they did they used 3/8" thick 4x4 angle iron and plated the frame inside and out. Then they made it a goose neck as well and re did the beaver tail. They should have lengthened the trailer in between where the hitch was put on and the front axle. The trailer puts very little tongue weight on the truck unless you put the weight clear up front like this scenario. The trailer weighs 5500 with nothing on it. The first load was 25,380. The 2nd it was getting dark so I didn't bother going and weighing it. That 2018 F350 didn't bat an eye. It has a cool engine brake feature among a lot of other nice features. I didn't want to use it and fall in love. Haha

    That's an impressive load. And the stack overhanging at the front caught my eye. DoT over here would've loved to see that one! LOL..

    The local cops would've frowned but looked the other way. Good to hear that the truck handled it just fine. I am skeptical of the new trucks and all the claims. We have two late models at work an F-550 and a 450. They spend as much time in the shop as they do working. Silly problems too. the older of the 2 was 3 years old when the fuel tank "rotted"!!! The dealer says it's common also! Oh, and the wiring / computer "glitches" just leave me frustrated. I would not want to own one!

    Yeah, the DOT here would not have approved either. But I made 3 loads into 2 and it was safe. It wasn't any wider than white line to my lane's yellow line. I just had to make sure to look up and far ahead when coming into narrow bridges etc. I took back roads as well and diverted around towns. I really need to build a round bale trailer but my list is long enough.
