You're over my head in the magnetic arena, but watching their video there is no magnetic action involved in changing from the repel to latched modes. It's a manual rotation. Seems to me that it would be pretty simple to use a normal remote, which engages a push-pull servo to accomplish the rotation, so making them remote controlled shouldn't be that difficult, seems to me....
