    Under Appreciated Speedy cars

Some rides didn't get the credit they deserve when new, or were once well known and have become forgotten in the interim. Like the Blown 340 HP 312 Y block '57 Fairlanes, that had the kind of power FE V8 Mustangs only had a decade later. What other cars would you add?

    Ford Fairlane

    Gremlin 401-XR

    '67 Firebird 400

I had the pleasure of driving a 68' Firebird convertible with a stock 400 that was rebuilt a bit hotter! My oldest brother owned it in High School. I used to give him a hard time about it's power, until one day he let me drive it. It is still the only car that smoked tires at 55 mph, when I punched the gas petal down, and I swear the gas gauge took a dip too!

Found this link on the Jalopy Journal with some real classics I never heard of, but very cool. I like the Shelby Maverick and the AMC Rebel Machine

When I lived in the Rocky Mtns there was a young construction worker that had a Firebird. I remember so clearly how much trouble he had when the roads would ice over because of spinning the tires from the awesome torque. He used to joke about it taking him a tank of gas to get to work which was only 5 miles.

While attending Photography school in California in the mid '60's my room mate had a '64 Studebaker Lark with a Paxton supercharged 289 I'd call it a under appreciated speedy car. Looked like a family sedan but hauled azz.
only give away was the 1/2 black and white painted rear rims

My Dad still gets grief from old friends and relatives about how could an old Buick be so fast. It is a 68 GS400 that had a dealer add on Stage 1 kit. 370hp is what they claimed, but it was more like 425hp according to Poston. My uncle with his 63 Vette still cries about it every time he's up from Texas.
