Bill, you need to go back and study your American History. We hear too often the term "separation of church and state", but those words are not found in any of the documents forming our basic tenets of the Republic. What the First Amendment says is this :
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
If you study history, and specifically pay attention to Thomas Jefferson, the concern was keeping the state out of church, not vice versa. Having just declared independence from England, where the Anglican Church was the State Church, Jefferson was determined that this situation not be repeated, and had already addressed it in the forming papers of Virginia. Take time to read some of the basic history from the 1770's and you'll find a strong overtone of religion in the direction of our founding fathers when they wrote the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Declaration of Independence, and that's a fact that cannot be refuted if one takes time to examine the history.

I expect that now you'll choose to close the thread, even though you are the one who drug religion into the discussion (read Post 11 carefully, especially the "but...") and brought us down this path.

The "separation of church and state" is in a letter Thomas Jefferson wrote to the Danbury Baptists and appears nowhere in the Constitution but the progressives would like you to believe that it is contained there. And yes we ARE a nation founded on Christian principles again much to the chagrin of progressives.

I'll post the following article from Forbe (2012) that has yet to be torn apart or refuted by any group to date:

Was America Founded As A Christian Nation? - Forbes

Regardless of your religious upbringing (some are staunch in their beliefs, based on their upbringing, others can sit back and read this with an open mind, regardless of their upbringing), it's well researched, and well written, and has not been torn apart by any of the religious groups, both conservative or ultra radical.

Bill, it wasn't so much your thoughts that I was referring to, but rather the snarky way you formulated them. Something many on this site have been slapped down for. If moderators are not held to the same standard as the members, I guess that's your choice.

Sadly, I steered it there by speaking from my heart. But I dished it out, if there are those that disagree with me, I'm an adult, I can handle it.

I agree 100%, I should have known better, and my post was partially a kneejerk reaction. But, it's out there, if I delete it, or the thread as a whole, then it becomes self serving as a cover up. Something I am not willing to ever be labeled as. Regardless, I am human just like the rest of you, and this thread shows it, good, bad, or otherwise.

Emotions can easily overwhelm anyone and knee jerk reactions become common place and as long as someone is not questioning another person's integrity, skin color and/or things that can be taken as demeaning cooler heads will eventually prevail. There are those that take personal attacks on their character from innuendo remarks quite personally and in my opinion quite justified.
Of course there are those who are just plain d**ks and should be dealt with accordingly and then are those who hide behind a false facade who enjoy stirring up s**t and then backing off when the s**t becomes too deep. It's those type of people who deserve a rebuke.

Wow, using an internet link (and from Forbes no less) to substantiate your claim, the United States was not founded on Christian principles. Really? I could flood this thread with Christian quotes taken from the founding fathers where God & Jesus Christ specifically where spoken of regularly. And, many times where they took quotes directly from the Bible to make their point. But, that's an argument for another time.

I don't know how a thread about a paint job could have degraded so fast to downplaying the importance of God and bashing personal beliefs, just because they may differ from your own.
I've been a member here for over 10 years and always thought this type of bashing was strictly forbidden, especially when it comes to religion or politics, you managed to get 'em both in record time. I've also had a pretty high respect for you over those years, I guess I was miss guided. I guess the easiest way to attempt to discredit a Christian is to take unsubstantiated jabs at them?
As you can probably tell I'm a Christian too, so feel free to take a jab at me too, won't be the first time that's happened strangely enough.

I very very rarely get involved in this type of discussion anymore & I'll apologize now for my knee-jerk reaction. I must admit my blood pressure rose when I read your history revisionist post, and I may regret (later) letting it get me worked up. I'm on the internet way too much anyway.
    Merry CHRISTmas to all.

Me watching that second plane flying into the second tower was like running across my original 1968 428cj Torino---and then learning the guy was taking it to a demolision derby--------------and that was all over and above my total feelings/thoughts about being an American under attack of what was possibly WW3-------

Robin and I went to the gas station, filled up car and truck, bought dried beans and potatoes, went to Red Cross to donate blood------------then realized that our son was at Scout AFB for his first day------------

what were some of the things you other old geezers did to prepare?????????

I too was watching that horrible day and the Ex had tuned in right before the second plane hit. She hollered at me to come see and I saw the second plane hit. For a moment, I was completely and utterly "numb" and then I thought of my friends that worked down town NYC and started trying to call them but with no success. After about 30 minutes, I started going through different emotions and I must have gone thru all of them that I have. First I was grieving for the people there, then I was as angry as I've ever been, then I became frightened, then I would cry, scream and I even went outside and cussed those "Maggots" at the top of my lungs as if they could hear me while throwing everything that I could pick up at the trees and the ground. Well, I took 2 elavils and finally reached my two friends and they were OK then I sat down in my recliner and wept and trembled for I don't know how long. I will say that, in my 73 years, I have never gone through that range of emotions one after another in my life.\

For some reason, Preparation, never crossed our minds but probably 'cause we were so far from it????

Wow, I'm surprised the thread got re-opened. I'll stay out of the first battle..............

I remember that day like yesterday. It was chaos. My girl friend, now my wife was freaking out, my transmission had just went out of my 97 F250 again, and I had to take it to the trans shop. Then I went in to the local PAR terminal and helped get trucks ready to head to NYC so they could take supplies and equipment to help out. It was crazy, it really felt like we could have been getting ready for another attack, you just didn't know when.
