Yeah Robin RUB it in we will give it back in 6 months. haha I just came in from OPENING up the drive way AGAIN the drifts were up to the windows on the cab of the 91 Chevy and it has a 3" lift kit. The wind took a section of fascia off my shop. I think that will be a spring time repair.Charlie

Wow,Charlie.. That's extreme.. You guys are getting enough snow for the next two winters.. I hear people down here moan about the wind and rain we get in winter,,and I just tell them to stop bitchin.. Think about what they get in the Northern Hemisphere.. I don't honestly think half of them realise what you guys go through up there,to get through winter..Micah 6:8

BURHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Up here we are looking at extreme water conservation, due to the dryest winter in over 100 years. Seems strange not to get rain this time of year. I think we usually get 20-25 inches of rain a year, but so far I think we are at 1 inch. Normally we worry about too much rain, so this is new for us." "No matter where you go, there you are!" 20-25 inches!
And you worry about too much rain?
We're considered to be quite high up the side of our hill, (Mt. Egmont,) 750 ft., and we get 6 ft. of rain annually whether we need it or not.
And we've had snow only about half-a-dozen times in the last fifty years.

With those two factors, that's why we can grow grass all year round, (albeit a bit more slowly over winter,) and can run dairy cows outside all year round too.
 Yep; God's Own Country alright!johnboy

They say that 1" of snow = see below.

That is usually common knowledge for meteorologists.
They also have that info here: What is the formula for switching rain to snow in inches? - Yahoo Answers

The general formula is as follows.

About 1 inch of rain = 10 inches of snow.

However, there are various forms of snow. Some is low density while other snow is high density. This will help you in general.

If it is a dry, cold snow and the temperature is BELOW 12ºF than the snow is most likely LOW DENSITY and with the following formula.

12 inches of snow = 1 inch of liquid rain.

If the snow falls when the temperature is between 12ºF and 24ºF then the average of 10 to 1 - 10 incoes = 1 inch of rain - can be followed in general.

If snow is falling and the temperature is between 24ºF and 28ºF the snow is more dense usually and the following forumla is used in general. 7 inches of snow = 1 inch of rain.

If the temperature is above 28ºF and lower than 31ºF than it is usually a heavy - wet and dense snowfall with some melting taking place especially in heavy snows. Then the formula wildely varies but usually 5 inches to 1 inch - 5 inches of snow = 1 inch of rainfall - is used.Ryan

I just came in from opening up the drive again. If you don't keep up with it, it gets to where it takes all day to open it. I run the plow to the road (1/4 + mile) turn around and come back in that time the wind has it half closed again. coffee and cookies now. Spring is just a few more snow storms away. If I remember right we only got like 23" of snow last season. I don't know how much we got this season but I'd bet twice that or moreCharlie

Heck yes Jerry and front brakes on our light weight cars. We might not get to drive on ice much unless one lives down Southland or Central Otago way but aqua planning on a sheet of water on a wet greasy road is damn exciting too. I still am stunned to see guys build T Buckets etc with no front brakes up in the USA. as even city running requires good braking.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.
