Just realised,,Uncle Bill might take a dim view on this thread,,so I will apologize in advance,,and understand if he stamps on it..Dont want to cause strife,,but now,interested in how many times this has been attempted..:confused::confused:

Seems like every few years some of the states wants to voice their dis-satisfaction and trys to file a seccession article.

Even our own Nantucket Island here in Massachusetts has filed a bunch of times! I guess Carly Simon and her husband lead the effort!

In january I think there was 5 or 7 states that filed... (illegaly of course!)

low unemployment , surplus of funds , no state income tax . yeah it's a horrible place. please dont move here .

:LOL: Lived in Corpus Christi for several years in uncle's canoe club, and worked with lots of Texans in my engineering life. Back before things went global, others would have a "Buy USA" clause, saying that things that were available from US suppliers were preferred over things imported. Several of the Texas utilities had "Buy Texas" clauses, backed up by "Buy USA" :LOL::LOL: Native Texans are a proud, independent and fiercely loyal group of people. We'd be less as a country to have them gone, if it were a real consideration, IMO.

this secession thing has been going on since the day we joined the union. most likely will go on forever. it is " not " in our constitution to secede from the union. texas has a colorful history. pretty good read when you have time .

History is always a favorite topic for me and I learned many things about the southwest while living in New Mexico.

I think people from outside the country are always amazed to hear this about this topic and that it continues to this day! But we all know it is just posturing!

Of course it will probably never happen but ?IF? it ever came to a vote, I think I would vote FOR secession and see what we could do on our own. Hell, we're already bigger than some countries anyhow HAHAHAHAHA

We aways cop flak here in Taranaki,about various things,,and I have said in the past,that if we closed off the top entrance at the Awakino tunnel,,and the bottom entrance,at the Hawera rail overbridge,,we could become a republic..We have most of the gas/oil in the country,,some excellent farming land,(ask John boy),and our own milk/cheese processing plants,etc..We dont need much else..:cool::cool::D When entering Taranaki province,,stop at the gate,show passport/visitors visa,and proceed with caution..No,ya cant come here to live..Only way is for your spouse to find you outside the province,,and import you,,like Lynda did..;);) She always tells people she imported me..:D:D

Yep.
Robin (Lamin8r) is correct.
Taranaki (colloquially known as 'the Naki',) could quite easily become a self-sufficient stand-alone state of Godzone.
And he's corect too about the quality of the farming land here.
When I took over my land, prior to clearing, some of the trees were rather large.
I well remember a large hollow rata in a paddock (feild) now called Ozzimandius.
I could stand inside it, with arms outstretched, and not touch either wall.
And the size of the trees the land will grow is an indication of the latent fertility of that land.
High natural fertility = big trees.
Low natural fertility = small stunted trees.
We also all have a hill in our backyards...called Mt Egmont (Taranaki,) which acts as a rain magnet; so while we get the occasional dry spell, the word 'drought' is not in our vocabulary.

And in the evenings you can step out onto the deck and listen to the banjoes...
