And thanks to you Bob. I guess I mis-took your mention of my "incident" with Dave as there were some who wanted this thread closed soon after it happened. But now I'm wondering if you were thinking of the "original" craigslist thread...

Hmmm - We as a people seem to have done that very thing to every president I can remember. However, the current guy in the White House seems to have mastered blaming his predecessor for everything from hang-nails to hemorrhoids.

Of all the places I visit online, I come here most often, stay the longest and truly enjoy the people here. The car wisdom is phenomenal and certainly what initially attracted a lot of us initially, but the wisdom and insight of many years of life is a commodity that's hard to duplicate. While I've met very few of you face-to-face, I feel like I know a bunch of guys (and gals too Barb!!) from England to Australia and all the points in between, and you're mostly just "my-kind-of-folks!"

I know I may tweak a beak now and again (mostly when some one wants a "lumpy cam" or bad mouths Q-Jets) but please know I have nothing but respect for those who frequently comment here. Don't always agree - but this is America and last I checked, we have that right!

    Regards All,
    Glenn

...and now folks, back to more pressing issues.

If you recall, the media/press had a field day with GWB's gaffes. They are not keeping count of the Big 'O's' screw up. Someone with way more time then I have has but together a list of 150 and is fairly current. Here's just one of them: Gives the Queen an iPod (of his speeches if you recall this one - go to the ref. site below and click on it, #63)

Some are YouTube, others 'news' stories. Here's the rest of that 150:

AND NOW - some positive info for our friends that are a day ahead in that peaceful island country in the South:

    3) New Zealand (tied for 2nd)

    > GPI: 1.239
    > Political terror scale: 1
    > Access to small arms: 1
    > Relations with neighboring countries: 1
    > Likelihood of violent demonstrations: 1

Every year since 2007, the IEP has ranked New Zealand as one of the world’s five most peaceful. This year, New Zealand tied with Denmark as the second-most peaceful of the 158 countries studied. A small proportion of its population in jail, limited military capacity and sophistication, and strong relations with Australia all help its score. New Zealand receives the best score possible on the Cignarelli and Richards (CIRI) Political Terror Scale. New Zealand also received the highest score in Amnesty International’s Corruption Perceptions Index, indicating there is little suspicion of corruption in the country.

    2) Denmark (tied for 2nd)
    > GPI: 1.239
    > Political terror scale: 1
    > Access to small arms: 1
    > Relations with neighboring countries: 1
    > Likelihood of violent demonstrations: 1

Denmark moved up two places this year, due in part to government budget cuts that decreased military spending, according to the IEP. The biggest strike Denmark has against its level of peace is the moderate sophistication and capabilities of its military. Denmark has the world’s smallest Gini coefficient — 24.7 — which means the country has a high level of income equality. With extremely low levels of violent crime and conflict, paired with political democracy and equality, the Danish enjoy a very high level of general peace. Denmark also has a notably high level of freedom of speech and freedom of the press.

    1) Iceland
    > GPI: 1.113
    > Political terror scale: 1
    > Access to small arms: 1
    > Relations with neighboring countries: 1
    > Likelihood of violent demonstrations: 1

Iceland, a country with only about 320,000 residents, takes the top honors for the most peaceful country for the second year in a row. The small country recorded the best possible score on all but four of the criteria that determine levels of peace, including the best scores on the homicide rate, imports of major conventional weapons and the likelihood of violent demonstrations. Ironically, Iceland’s continued fiscal belt-tightening helped the country lower its score from last year. The Icelandic Defense Agency, which had a budget of $20 million in 2008, now has been disbanded, according to the IEP. The country has no standing army, and military expenses total just over 1% of GDP.

Yep, New Zealand is a great place to live alright.
Not being facetious, but it's known to us as "God's Own Country".

Dave W...right at the moment,,you could ski Mt Egmont,,on the west side,,and go crashing through Johnboy's back door, just in time for a nicotine sandwich, and a hot coffee...Which would be cheaper by far than the outragious prices at the ski resorts..If by chance, you come crashing down the opposite side of the hill,,you can slide across the highway, and do the same at the house of koop de glass, and get a coffee or three here.. Either way,mate..there's always room for a hotrodding brother around here.. And yes,,all of you guys would probably feel quite relaxed in our little paradise..Just remember which side of the road to drive on...Far too many people try to drive on the wrong side of the road..

In Taranaki, the province that Robin and I live in, if you so desire, you can go skiing in the morning, surfing at lunchtime, and pig-hunting in the afternoon.

    Yep; God's Own Country alright!
