I'm sitting here looking at the site and while I'm not "thrilled" with some of the changes have had only one problem "No Packets To Send" . It is very slow loading from my home page, but one other non-car site I use is as well.
My guess is that your computer has 'eaten' a virus or the registry is corrupted. As far as pop up, I use Firefox and they have an add-on called Adblock to dupm them.
The only popups I get are the adds for our supporters If not for them I'm sure you'd be paying dues of some kind. The changes havent effectied my p/c I realy don't have a problem with the new program at first I thought what the he)) is going on but it seems to have greatly improved and it all works.
I went into control panel (internet options) (Privacy) and put a site in to stop pop-ups. Can't remember or find the pop-up site I blocked. But you can turn on pop-up blocker. Maybe that might help.
question is what is api.viglink.com??.
It has been trying to uplaod now for about 4 minutes.might just go and do a google search.
Well this is what I found.
VigLink - API
Javascript doesn't have a upgrade for windows 98.
I am getting used to the site and can live with it, but to be honest, I see no advantages for the club member. It seems the only advantage is that it allows the use of the annoying popups (Although that is an advantage to the site owner since it probably increases his profit margin.)
I dislike the fact that only part of the poster's location is shown, usually only the city but not the state or province (Doesn't seem to have affected mine, however.) Also, the format keeps changing so it is difficult to see whether a posting is previously viewed or not.
What is with all the ads that appear in between every post? It's one thing to have sponsors ads appear at the top or on the sides, but in between each and every post is a bit much, I think.
I'm so upset I've decided to make some signs and picket this place. :eek:Attachment 49678
Don
What about the ads that cover about 1/3 of each photo that is posted? How do you get rid of those? Extremely obnoxious! My popup blocker is on.
Has anyone put on ((Microsoft Security Essentials))?
They started that over a year ago and it's FREE. It's a virus protector that works very well. This is all I have been using for the last year on both computers. Every once in awhile I click on something that I probably shouldn't have. But you never know what's gonna happen when you click on anything because there are a lot od idiots that put nasty crap on. This MSE's catches it before it becomes a problem. I talked with a geek guy and he said that MSE's is the best thing that they have done. Your computer will slow down while it scans and does an update, but does not affect it when it's not doing it's thing.
Check it out. Like I say, it's free and does work well.
Go to google and type it in and do what it tells you to do.
I occasionally see an ad sneek in between posts, non on this one right now though. Have no idea what my computer does to eliminate them, most of the time they're not even there. Hey, if it keeps this and other sites like it free and not a buy a paid membership deal, for me it becomes little more then a minor inconvenience. Every other form of media, TV, radio, print, what have you has pages and pages of ads to weed through to get to the good stuff. Looks like we're still ahead of the game on CHR!!
I don't mind the ads that appear between the posts. It's the ones that cover up a portion of your pictures the bug me.......but I guess I already said that a few posts ago....LOL!
I don't see those floating ads at all, the sidebars can be closed by clicking on the arrow in the upper corner of them. Privacy settings are local to your browser, so you need to set the permissions locally on your system (in Seamonkey I have an option to block ads by web site, which I do frequently but not here as I seem to not see what you do). I do see in my settings I have googleadservices.com blocked as a global setting on my local computer, so you might want to set that on your own. Pop ups I do not see at all, virus scan your systems, clean out your cookie file, system and browser cache, then re log in.
Bill S.
Wowee - love that one - a full page of CHR:whacked::LOL: Hold-me-down:eek:**)
To eliminate the ads, you need an ad block - just like I noted above. MS with their IE latest version has one that is worse then useless. There are many posts on line about that feature and how horrible it is to try to work around. Occasionally I have to use IE for other programs and then log in here - for about as long as it takes to load before I go back to Firefox. Microsoft may be a decent (now) operating system, but much of the rest of what they offer is, IMO, pure junk.
Am I reading right that some are seeing popup ads? That should not be the case. There are ads on the site, yes....click on them to support the site. Most everything else is pretty much the same by now. I'm still working out a few little bugs but nothing as far as I'm aware is blocking or otherwise impacting the usefulness of the site.
Also, there's a lot more to use here...so I'm hoping that with a little more time, everyone will get used to some of the minor changes and enjoy the new features.

Sounds like an answer a politician would give us, Brent. :) Can I ask WHY the change was made at all? If it wasn't broke, why fix it?
Don
Don,
First, it was running on 7 cylinders, blown head gasket, and severe rod knock......Not quite dead, but working it's way toward a sudden and irreversible death that no amount of electronic patching would fix.
Second, (and this is my personal observation as an end user and not as a moderator) I do realize that you have resisted the change(s) but your recent posts seem far out of character for you.....Just a little too harsh towards Brent compared to the countless days, weeks, months he puts into keeping this place up and running. Again, just a personal observation.
In closing, the changes were needed, as were the updates to the antiquated and soon to be non supported level of forum software. Perhaps Brent can continue to tweak the colors so that it is easier on the eyes (each color choice requires more than you might think to implement), but again, it will take time and guidance (not attacks) in an attempt to make as many users happy as possible.
Here is once again wishing you well.
Sincerely,
Bill S.
Probably the same reason my other site changed its format..These two sites were the same..just different colors...Only,I dont recall being told why they changed it..All I can remember is going on one day,and going..''uggh,what have they done that for''?:confused:and then being told that I might have to change my server to view pics,,which I didnt want/need to do..But everything works okay now,so I am finding my way around here the same..Just familiarization..No,I dont really like change either,,but can get used to it...:D
When the old site would go down for a day or two at a time, people would start a post about it and complain. Brent goes to the work and expense of going to new software that doesn't breakdown for a day or two at a time and people still complain. I'm no computer guy, but it would seem just getting rid of that old and recurring problem makes the new much better. Am i missing something else?
Brent goes to the work and expense of going to new software that doesn't breakdown for a day or two at a time and people still complain.
So you think this will never break down?
I'd bet that not near as often or for as long as the old software did!!!! I'm not a computer guy, if the guys who are say the old stuff was antiquated to the point of being beyond fixing, and soon there would be no support available for it, that's good enough for me!!!! Heck, is anything ever perfect, let alone does anything ever make everyone happy???
The fact remains this is his site and WE are guest He is willing to forgo the expence of keeping it alive .I'm for that ,hell I've gone through 3 computers in the past years and each one is different than the last because the old stuff was out dated. I'm not going to not use it because its different I'm going to get used to it,and learn how to use it.
[QUOTE=mrmustang;427329]Don,

Bill, maybe I did come across a little strong, and I apologize for that. However, I think you would have to admit that the majority of what I have tried to contribute during my time here was toward the betterment of the forum. Possibly I didn't say some things in the most diplomatic way, but I called it as I see it. No matter how I have looked at this new format I think it is not nearly as good as what we had. It is harder to navigate, to post pictures, and the colors are harder to read. I know it has been said we can personalize the appearance, and I have tried that, still with no good outcome IMO.
I also respect and appreciate the countless hours you and Brent put into the forum. How and why you both do it so unselfishly is beyond me. That doesn't negate the fact that all of us on here have our opinions about things. Some of us are just more vocal than others, perhaps.
No disrespect was intended. :)
Don
"I got to admit", "it's getting better", "a little better all the time".
Don, and others that don't much care for this new design, the way that I've equated this change is really a few ways that made me a bit more accepting. I'll go through a couple:
= Cell phone. I'm not a real early user of those infernal gadgets, but my first one had an on/off button, weighed probably a pound plus and made phone calls and had a voice mail service. My new one - and I got a clunky size so I don't lose it, weighs 3-4 ounces, can text, email, GPS, full computer function, take good pictures, play games and bunch of other things that I don't/wont use. I make calls - period!!
= Televisions and setting them for HD/video/games/PC's (I'm using a 24" TV as a monitor now)
= DVR/TiVo. I still prefer the VHS and now use a DVD player because nothing is done in VHS. We have a DVR that my wife has 'mastered', but I so far don't use as my TV watching is minimal
= PC's. I play around with them but will never understand what/why it happens inside the operating system. Then there is the multi function printer that has replaced the old dot/matrix
= Refrigerators are all electronic, dish washers, ranges...............same and every one is different
= You have a DD computer controlled car - even my '31 has electronics. The speedometer is the "most interesting" so far.
= ATMs that will give you $$ anywhere in the world if you have a number and an account
Look around you and you will see how much more difficult and involved everyday life has become with this electronic gadgetry. Unfortunately, new designs come around and the old ones (last year or maybe the year before is OLD) can no longer be serviced for various reasons - parts, the seller, the developer, etc. Planned (and unplanned obsolescence) drive these changes. Then you wonder why kids are the way they are!!
This site isn't bad, it is more involved and not quite as intuitive and us more 'mature' folks are having some adjustment period. We have too good a place to come to for just talkin'. Brent will, I'm sure continue tweaking to make it a bit easier , and yes, I too would have preferred the old, but------ to survive, the forum has to move on or disappear like many before.
I've seen this on other smaller forum's for local clubs in the past year or two where everything is fine one day, but the host announces that the software being used is no longer going to function in their environment after some date certain, so the people/clubs subscribing to service are left with two choices - adapt or die. I believe that we're very fortunate that Brent has the knowledge and experience to take a new operating system and make it very nearly mimic the old system, but we all must police our own systems to ensure that they are up to snuff, too, relative to virus protection and spyware that can cause lots of issues on PC's, especially those with the older operating systems and outdated protection. Hopefully we can all get familiar enough with the new bells and whistles to become more comfortable with the system over time.
Bill, thanks for the explanation. It helps to understand that this was not a change just for change, but was driven by the fact that the program being used to drive this forum was not going to be supported in the near future.
Thanks to whomever posted the trick to get the full screen - - - - it almost feels like Christmas now!
i dont see popups or much of anything else like that.the only thing is the colors are a bit hard to read.i think its a bit faster for me now.im on dang dialup so anything faster is good with me.
Change is Change Some people accept it faster and better than others.
I have not been on the forum for a little while as I just switched professional jobs and I'm also the president of a local Car Club. I recently put up a new website for my car club as the old "free" site went under. I get a lot of praise and critiscism about how my website works and is going. I spent countless hours of my time to research build and have something for the 525 members to access. Some of the members just wanted the old site back but that was impossible. The format changed as did the way the format was created.
In time, everyone will get used to the new format and modifications to things like colors can be adjusted. Like I said earlier, some people adapt to change faster than others.... Just sayin!
Jerome
Your right, nothing is ever perfect, but if someone asks if we're having any problems, were going to mention it in hopes of making it easier for all..
I don't think there is anyone here who doesn't apperciate the hard work gone into this site(Big Thanks here!!!)
Brian
Don,
Brent puts in far more than I do, even though I stop in to check out new posts every few minutes/hours(I'm just the driver, Brent is the engineer/builder :D ). It is by far harder to do all of the background work than it is for me to do the moderating. I too meant no disrespect in my post, quoting you. It's all good in the long run.
Bill S.
Bill I don't get the pop-ups other people mentioned, and only occasional ads between posts. I like the fact we can get read of the side bar easily. I'm using Firefox to browse with for several reasons which may be the reason I don't have the same viewing problems. Firefox is much more stable than windows explorer, and seems to have much less problems in general on browsing on the web. It's free and takes up relatively little to no space to use, and seems to load pages faster. That being said, occasionally it does funny things on certain websites, where I can't figure out what the heck is going on so I switch to Google Chrome, or Explorer to see if it is a software problem. Other than the lighter color causing glare making it harder to read, things are relatively fine. I have had a heck of a time finding certain tools like "subscribed threads" on here. That one always takes a few minutes to find. I can't imagine what it must be like trouble shooting some of these things, given the number of operating systems and browsers out there. Also the versions of operating systems seems to limit the browsers some people can use! Thanks for your feed back and continued help with this change. Steve.
Brent or Bill after searching again through all the tabs I found quick links hidden under Forum tab, and found subscribed threads there. How hard would it to make a tab for quick links and put in things that were under the old software quick links button? It would be far easier to navigate with that function easily found. I also miss the who's online link there as well as the friends online side bar, if those are options we could have back. Don't know if anyone else has a problem with these things,it just seems it would help the navigation issues I have.

I'm sorry, I'm not programed to give you that information :D
If you are getting pop up ads, they should not be coming from CHR or the advertisers within. I suggest deleting your system and browser cache (two different items), removing your cookies, and relogging in as it appears that you may have an advertisers cookies located in your system that you should not.
Bill S.
By "pop up ads" he might mean the ads that are between the first and second post on a page and the ads that are at the bottom of EVERY picture (although you can x them to close the ad). Very annoying. I make it a point to not support any company that slugs me with ads that I dont want to see.
