Ken is fine, I spoke with him on the phone a while back and have exchanged some emails with him more recently. He is just very busy with his businesses and working on his projects.
I can't speak for any member, but I do think the new format has thrown some of us off of our pace a little. It is more difficult to navigate and the look is a little harder on the eyes, IMO. It just feels very different somehow. It also seems to me that participation is way down since the change. New posts seem much lower and when I look at the number of members who are signed on at any given time there are only a handful logged on, whereas there used to be a bunch listed before. Personallly, I only check in here occasionally now, and post much less than before because there are less subjects on the table, it seems.
Sorry, I just call em as I see em. :)

don i agree with you. i have adjusted to the new site but i am sure that there are others that have not. i spoke with hoss last night on facebook and tried to walk him through how to change the look of the site. he tried and then stated that it was still too hard on his eyes and will not be posting here again. i really hope that he changes his mind.
And dont forget the stupid ads that pop up between posts....very distracting
this new format just plain sucks you will notice he hasn't forced it on his beloved club cobra but he sees us hot rodders as test rats and sticks us with this piece of crap ...ted
Probably the biggest contributor is that the old cached links that people have on their computers takes them to a log on error screen of some sort. Though I'm sure resistance to change is a factor as well. I think most folks here have noted that and figured out how to work past it and create a new, functional link. Those you're missing are not doing that, perhaps because they don't understand what has happened, perhaps just the final straw in their view to past history of server issues, perhaps something else.
I don't say the following as an outright critcism, but more as an observation of human nature. Any of you that were early adopters of personal computers remember the operating manuals/instructions that were mostly unintelligible to the layman, and thus practically useless. They were written by and for the technogeeks that developed the soft and hardware. Brent is one of those technogeels (said with affection). From their perspective this stuff is "easy" to understand, so therefore needs little to no explanation. The same reason lots of "fantastic" inventions never see the light of day. The inventors think their idea is so fantastic the entire world will embrace it. They are incapable of seeing the world (and their invention) as their potential customers do. That's why God invented marketing people.......to bridge that canyon between the inventors brilliance, and the eventual users frame of reference.
It would likely help the site if one of those broadcast emails went out that explained in effective terms what has happened, and what the user will likely see if they use the old cache. Followed by a simple explanation in lay terms that tells them how to log on successfully, including needing to remember their password (which might also be a stumbling block for some/many), and renew their participation.
It's a FREE site.
It is a free site. But I feel like I have lost some friends because of this. I can't see why there can't be one more theme to select at the bottom. I would call it a work friendly style that is all white with the posts still in their own box outline. Make it simple. Simple is good. I understand the adds between the first and second post in a thread, but I hate the 'wait 90 seconds between posts.' There is not enough traffic on here to require that.
I don't find the setup as user friendly as previous. Maybe I havent played with it enough to sink in yet. The color choices are hard my eyes as others have stated.
Yeah, it is a free site, but if it becomes not comfortable for people and they just stop participating, it is a free EMPTY site. If you are a member of more than one site you have to ask yourself why you go to those sites and ignore all the other ones out there. Part of it is because of the participants themselves, we end up bonding with each other and forming friendships and look forward to chatting with those friends. But another part of it is how the site itself "feels'.
I can't explain what makes one site feel better than another, but it is a real factor in why I gravitate to some and don't go to others. The old format just felt right, and even though it went down occasionally, we still kept coming back. So far I have not heard the exact reason this change was even made.........not that Brent owes us that explanation, but since we are family..............
I agree that the new format sucks. There is nothing I like about it, and from a few conversations and emails I have exchanged with friends on here, they are not fond of it either. It is more than resistance to change, it is like going to your favorite restaurant for years and suddenly they change the menu. You might try it for a while, but chances are you will stop going there and look for one that suits you better. That is how I feel about CHR today.
Don
Don,
Part of the problem is that this is the only site I have found that has such a great cast of characters. The knowledge is unbelievable and most are willing to share it (Bob is willing to share too much sometimes, but that is another story). Friendly banter is put into so many of the threads. Your $3000 thread is a perfect example. Great how-to and fun conversation. It is what made me stick to this site when I found it. I am at a loss to where I could go and find e-friends like I have found here.
But guys.I understand what you all are saying and I too feel your pain but it is those friendships that I treasure that I have made through this Club that matters more importantly to me then the site it self. I only hope and pray that Hoss doesn't give up to soon as I'm sure he will be missed by all here as will any others that are undecided to preserve with the changes here. Uncle Bob,you keep those pictures coming as it is all part of the fun as with you Don,we all love hearing about your wild cats that you are feeding, Kurt with his boxer pup's all helps to make this site the best in the cyber space. I would be really hurt if we lost some of our friends who make up the regular posters here as I would feel that my left arm has been amputated.
I agree with all that you say, Whip. If we all didn't care so much about the forum and it's continued success, we would simply keep quiet and not say anything. I would just hate to see people that I like a whole lot start to participate less.
Don
I,too, had noticed Ken hadnt been on for a few days,I havent spent as much time on here either, for various reasons...I am still getting used to the new look..We have a new look down here at the NZHRM site,,which I dont care a great deal for,,and there were a few probs to start with,,couldnt see the pix,etc..It seems to be ironing itself out now..This new look doesnt do a lot for me,but I will get used to it..
Once again I've sent Brent a link to this thread so he can read and respond to your concerns and ideas.
Bill S.
i dont think the new site sucks or any of that other stuff.
but i HAVE noticed there is nobody here.
i come here every day and there is hardly any activity.
I find myself looking but not posting much.
Not that I posted much before.
But even less now.
The change, in my opinion, is not for the better.
Re NZHRM site.
I concur with lamin8r.
I have halved my posting there since the changes.
Upgrades for the better they tell us .. Huh?
The ongoing issues that haven't been fixed are forcing
people off the site.
Hope that doesn't happen here too.
Seems to be like 'ol Bil (Skakespeare, not Mustag) said, "Much ado about nothing."
The new format does the same things in a little different manner, what's the big deal anway? Seems if people really wanted to support the forum and the people that frequent it they would make the most of it and not take every opportunity of "where's so and so" to turn it into a rant against Brent. Got a problem with Brent, pm or email him. Seems that might do the forum and it's members more good then post lamenting a change in layout.
maybe ken thurm is busy?
just a thought....;)
ever change the tune on your motor ? go to deuces ? sometimes change just sucks a little until you get it dialed in .
Well Dave, I guess we can't freely voice an opinion then .. Sorry.
Sure you can, just rehashing the same dang thing doesn't really seem to do a bit of good towards supporting the forum. Personally, I could give a rip what you say, somebody will always find some reason to whine about it!
Give a rip =say something
Don't give a rip=shut up and stay out of the way of those who do
Someone once said===Lead, follow, or get out of the way!!!
Please, if you're going to quote me, don't take things out of context..."I could give a rip what you say, somebody will always find a reason to whine about it". Thank you.
Dave,
I share a lot of your sentiments, and I surely did not intend my initial post to turn into another "...rant against Brent..." as you put it, and I for sure was not trying to "stir the pot" because I truly do not see that the changes are a big deal - my opinion, my experiences, and not on any soap box about it. My only agenda was a sincere concern about not seeing Ken here, and wondering if anyone had been in contact with him. In hindsight I should have sent him a PM or e-mail vs posting :o Sorry guys & gals, it will not happen again from my keyboard **)
so you have changed from COULD give a rip to DON"T give a rip-------------must be an election year
I find nothing wrong with your posts, in fact if it gets people to stop and think (good or bad), I'm all for it (as a mod, not as an owner, which I am not). Free speech is a wonderful thing until one person attacks another for his views. When it becomes personal, that is when the balance between free speech and common sense must be weighed and actions taken (no matter who posts). So far, since the change over, I do not believe I've really had to intervene in anything that crosses that line. I for one thank all of you for that.
In closing, Brent does work a full time job, and does have a family, so if he does not respond to your emails and PM's in what you believe is a timely manner, send me a PM and I'll point him towards the thread/post in question if it is something I cannot assist with.
Sincerely,
Bill S.
PS: (Edit): Since the change, post count has gone up, not down, just thought I would clarify that ;)
[QUOTE=mrmustang;PS: (Edit): Since the change, post count has gone up, not down, just thought I would clarify that ;)[/QUOTE]
Probably because 50% of the new posts are people complaining about the new format.:LOL: (Sorry, Bill, I couldn't stop myself :o)
I know this may not rank up there with solving world hunger, but evidently it IS important on some level to some of us longtime members. And, as I said, my true concern is for the longterm good of the forum..........I would hate to see anything hurt what was once so very good.
BTW, I was curious about the definition of the word forum. Here is what the dictionary says:
a. The public square or marketplace of an ancient Roman city that was the assembly place for judicial activity and public business.
b. A public meeting place for open discussion.
c. A medium for open discussion or voicing of ideas, such as a newspaper, a radio or television program, or a website.
Don
Ok Jerry, I corrected my post. Long time since I've ran for an election so it was just a mistake. Some of us still make them...............
As stated earlier, I've sent off a copy of the link to his private email address. I know he will read it and this thread when he has a few minutes of time to do so. Upgrades take time (they are not automatic point and click like on your computers), options and tweaks take time, all I ask as a mod is that those long time members who feel that change is bad is to give it some time, do not give up just because you must change your bookmarks. Like changing the style of air cleaner on your street rod, changing of the forum software can be a tedious affair until just the right balance of form (looks) and function (proper air flow) is achieved.
Bill S.
I totally agree Don, I'm here when i can get in which is not very often, sometimes i can get straight into the site but other times nothing !!!
Oh, you haven't heard, Steve? The US has declared war on England, so you are on a need to know basis now. :D Something about us hearing you have lots of good looking women over there and we want some. :D
Don
Yeah Steve, you send that Pippa Middleton over here for me to take care of please and yes she is a keeper,so don't expect her back to soon.
Bill I'm wondering if one of the three options for viewing could be in the old color scheme. That would solve a lot of problems with the visual thing people have mentioned, and would be a simple quick fix. Ken glad to hear your well. Still plugging away at my own projects as time permits. Don glad your still around here and Dave you too. I enjoy all of you guys and your posts, just hope something can be done to make the site more familiar and easy on the eyes to keep people here. Speaking of people missing, I haven't heard from Richard in a long time, hope all is well with him. Steve.
Well Dave, I hardly see my "comments" as whining, as you put it.
I like what mrmustang says "Free speech is a wonderful thing until one person attacks another for his views."
I won't post in this thread again.
Hi Bill,
I have grown into the effect the change has had on my very old computer and accepted that is my fault.Thing is the trendy attachments that was incorporated in the change that I don't really understand with Facebook(if I am here why do I need to be there too?),blog's(the same reasoning),etc.
LOL-if have have a need for all that communication never losing contact and never detaching myself,I am guessing I am not getting much done on my projects to post to the forum.
To sum it up,tech moves forward and towards that end my lost, but the main topic of the forum seems to me be about oldtime Hod Rods with many members like me who still has a nickel in their wallet for a phone call which I think is one of the attractions to the site and making the upgrade kind of out of place.
As I said,I am working threw the freeze frames to still be apart of the forum, yet I do wish there had been a accounting for guys like me giving the option to choose a "classic version"of the old forum that wouldn't have had the impact this one has had.Yahoo has that option. It would satisfy the guys that don't like the upgrade too.
