Sick Raccoon
Working in the barn today, and about 2pm opened the rolling door as my wife and grandson were due home any time and I wanted to listen for them. I'm sitting in the '33, both doors open running some speaker wires and on the other side of the car this 'coon goes by, kind of up on tiptoes moving real slow. Broad daylight, acting strange, not sure if he was rabid or just loaded with distemper but I did not take a chance. Got him to go back outside and shot him with the 22 pistol. Glad it wasn't a skunk!! Around here the state wildlife agency directions are that if you ever get a skunk in a live trap you are not to let it go, as they are the #1 rabies carrier, especially this time of year.Roger

Good move Roger, even tho I love God's creatures, when you see one that is normally nocturnal roaming around and not acting right then it's time to shoot first and ask questions later. We saw a red fox a couple of days ago and it was right next to the busy highway like nothing was going on at straight up 12 o'clock. I called the feller who's pasture it was in and made him aware of it. We have lots of skunks in this area and are seeing lots of road kill this time of year.
Did you take the Coon to get him tested for rabies?.

Never had anything tested, Mello, and don't know anything about the process. On skunks, my oldest boy drove from here to Conroe, TX north of Houston last weekend to pick up a big wave runner and carried it back to the lake in MO, and he said that they saw at least 200 road kill skunks down and back. They're coming out of hibernation, but 200 in a weekend is a lot!!Roger

I was bitten by a rabbid racoon about 20 years ago. I had come home from work and let my cat out and saw this racoon slowing walking and falling over towards me. I went in and got my 22 and went out and all of a sudden he was on me. Had some deep bites on myarms and finally killed it with my fist. Had it checked and it was rabbid and had to have painful shots in the stomach. I respect and like all animals but as a former trapper, you learn the ways of critters that don't seem normalKeep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

Good warning there from "one who has been there" and folks need to take heed to all of Chevy 37's advice and experiences.
Man, that must have been quite an ordeal for you !.

I was in a bar one time and saw a woman waking in an unsteady manner.....all of a sudden, she was on me. I fought for as long as I could. Fortunately, i didnt have to take the painful shots. Dont know if she was rabid.....OK, she was foaming at the mouth. It was
pitiful. Sure am lucky I didnt marry her. I have heard the shots that Chevy 37 had to have were really painful....now I hear it is much less painful and a simple arm shot.

Robot. Ha.Ha Had to laugh. Back in my younger days walked many, many night unsteady to talk to women, but most of them were put off that I was to drunk. I finally got talking to one great looking lady one night and have been married to her for 25 years. No foaming at the mouth, but she sure could outswer me.Keep smiling, it only hurts when you think it does!

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
