I was overseeing a pipeline river crossing in KC MO. The company had told me that I would be out of the job after the project was finished, so I wasn't all that inclined to go to work early. I was watching the news when the report about the first tower came in. I saw the second plane hit the tower on live TV. I had no doubt about what was happening.

9/11 was one of the reasons I went to work for the DoD after my company so unceremoniously ushered me out the door.

I'm working for the DoD/Navy in Naples currently. Here's the American flag flying from my balcony.

When I had the shop I'd usually get there around 5:30 in the morning, nice time to get things done without interuption. My shop manager usually got there around 6:00. Shortly after he got in his wife called and said something like "a plane hit a WTC building in NY." First though was "oh, why would someone be flying that low in the city to have run into a building?". Punched up the internet and started reading and it took awhile for the story to sort out. Then the second hit and speculation ran wild.

I wish blown31 were right about the never forget thing, but sadly there are too many who have.

As for flag flying, I've had one up everyday since, and it will be that way until.............I wish I knew.

i was watching the morning news. it was right after the first tower was hit. i could not believe my eyes when i saw the second plane. i woke up my husband who was at the time working the night shift. he got up and watched it with me until time for him to go to work. because some of the attacks occured here in virginia we went into immediate state of emergency. our local bases jets were all in the air and the national guard 1/2 mile right up the road block the main road with barbed wire and armed guards. I went to school and got both of my children out and brought them home. we were terrrified. it was not until late that afternoon that we could take a breath. by then the jets had returned to base. the silence was deafning. I went outside and sat on my steps to just comtinplate what had occured. Then the elementary school age kids in the neighborhood got a small baseball game going in my neighbors yard. As i sat watching them i realized that even though i knew that nothing would be the same after what had happened I also knew that we would be fine and come out of this. You can do what you want to us but it will not change us. That is america to me.
