Yes I use Barrs Leak. Be carful how much you use of any of them as the tend to plug up the heater core.Charlie

When you can afford it and get time I would have the radiator cleaned and recored and flush the entire system.Ken Thomas

Yes ideally either have the radiator repaired at an auto shop or look out for a good second hand one and as NTF says flush the whole system out with the garden hose. Oh don't forget to remove the thermostat and open the heat control so that the water circulates through the whole system.I maybe a little crazy but it stops me going insane.

Vote number 2 for Alumaseal. Years ago when I was trying to keep the 302 in my 27 going for a little longer I developed some radiator leaks from it shaking around. I used Barrs Leaks and later on when I had the radiator reworked the guy said he had to almost chisel the stuff out of the tubes. When I pulled my engine apart the cooling passages in the heads, block, and intake were almost totally closed up with stuff that looked like cement.
I've seen Alumaseal plug up pretty big holes in radiators and not plug up the rest of the system.

Louey - that stuff is great. Had a headgasget leak 5 years ago in the Toyota truck, and a mechanic friend put some in the radiator, and it stopped the leak, for 5 years now, no problems! I'm pretty sure I put some in my new engine after we fired it up, but I will have to drain the fluid, soon, so I'll do it again, to help with the leaks, good stuff! When we put it in the old truck, he just told us drive the car for a minimum of a half hour after I put it in, and it will circulate everywhere, without plugging things up. He also told us that most car manufacturers were using it right off the assembly line, to fix any assembly leaks. Never had a problem with it yet!Last edited by stovens; 06-08-2011 at 10:49 AM.

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
