Fired up the "Wild Canary" today
Well, up here in the frozen north, we're about half way through the winter. I quit driving the roadster pickup about the end of the first week in October, as by then its getting too cold to drive any kind of roadster comfortably in Ontario. Its been setting in the garage for about 3 months with a couple of old bed sheets covering it up. I don't use any fuel stabilizer nor do any other "winter prep" on it in the fall, except to test the anti-freeze in the radiator to make sure it is still strong enough to resist freezing-----Cracked blocks are somethng we can do without. I always start it about mid winter and let it run for about 20 minutes untill its up to temperature, then shut it off. That gives the battery a charge and keeps oil on everything in the engine that needs to be kept oiled. Now I probably won't fire it again untill sometime towards the middle of April, when hopefully we will start to see some nice warm days again.----And Damn, I hope we get a hotter, drier summer this year than we did last!!!!-----BrianLast edited by brianrupnow; 01-23-2010 at 04:57 PM.

Dont know if I could handle those temperatures,Sure couldnt handle not being able to drive my truck for 3 or 4 months..and people around here moan when the temps get around 8-10 deg C..Probably a good time to build a car,if you have a warm enough shed..Micah 6:8
If we aren't supposed to have midnight snacks,,,WHY is there a light in the refrigerator???

Just started up the Chevelle today, the temperature was unusaully warm so I took her out for a spin. Sure is a lot more fun than my four banger daily!
By the way I love the look of your roadster, it was a major influence for me finding the way a real hot rod should look when I first got into hot rods.
Good luck to a nice summer
ThomasMe: I don't know how to build a hot rod.
Old Hot Rodder: You ever build a model car?
Me:Yeah...
Old Hot Rodder: Well instead of using glue you weld.

We're getting a "real winter" here this year too, Brian.... Somebody must have left the gate open up north again and let winter get through! Could you maybe shut it for us?????Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, Live for Today!

I should fire up my old Chevy and let it run a while... actully, for some odd reason, I feel dissapointed I havn't gotten a bad winter... last year my snowblower broke a belt last year and we had pretty heavy snow/ never got a chance to fix it .. fixed it during the summer, and it's running better than ever but havn't needed it only twice this year so far.. bought an identical model machine ( there 1971 Gilson snowblowers ) to fix up as a second machine and at this rate, I won't need it until next year .. no snow to play around with in a 4x4. usally I wish for a mild winter, but for some reason, I'm bored without it this yearYou don't know what you've got til it's gone

That "snow picture" was taken 3 or 4 years ago. This winter has not been too bad.---We currently have about 8" of snow on the ground---which makes it a very 'light" winter, so far.---BrianOld guy hot rodder

Thanks a lot for that picture Brian. I caught a cold just looking at it! Where is Global Warming when we need it?
Shouldn't be too much longer until you can get your RPU out for a spin, here we are at the end of January already. Come March or so you should be able to get it out, eh?
Work picking up any up there?

Hi Don---How nice to hear from you!!! Although I have seen one March where the weather was warm enough to play "Hotrod" in the last week or so, thats one March out of the last 63. Most years we have snow right up untill the end of the first week in April before the weather starts to warm up. Work does seem to be picking up some, I have been busy since Christmas. I subscribe to about 3 different job finding services on the internet, and during the last 6 months of 2009 I didn't see one single add for engineer, design engineer, mechanical technologist-----nothing. Now since the year has turned over, I am seeing more and more adds every week being posted for jobs in my field. I don't get any work myself from these job adds, as they are all posted by companies seeking permanent employees, however it serves as a good indicator of what is happening in the general economy "out there". Can it be that we are finally coming out the other side of this horrible economic slump???? I sure hope so.----BrianOld guy hot rodder

I'm starting to see some "slight" movement in our business too. We had a horrible December and early January, but the last week we have gotten in quite a few boats to fix. This lousy weather hasn't helped either, but it's finally up into the high 70's during the day again so maybe people will start using, and breaking, their boats.
Glad to see your work has improved some too. When someone with your talents and work history is slow you know things aren't good.

Welcome to CHR. I think that you need to hook up your vacuum advance. At part throttle when cruising you have less air and fuel in each cylinder, and the air-fuel mixture is not as densely packed...
