We have had 2 cops on our payroll (programers) since early 80's, my brother boards the mounted police ( about 12 of them) , my uncle was the captian, and my best man in my wedding is a deputy sheirff.!
With that all said if anyone was chasing me, or shooting at me, I want it to be a cop! They can't hit anything walking, and most can't catch themselfs!!!!! Seen it mant times. They won't stop the mong where I use to live in their Honda's because they carry ozzie's!

I have many guns, my 1st one at 8, and have never been with out one since. My hunting guns are put away so they are harder to steal, but my D&W 38 pistol is always loaded, and if you come thru my doors, you'll be dead, and I'll be proving it was self defence, but I'll still be alive to see tomorrow, and you won't be around to do it again to someone else!!!! Thats a promise!!!! Don't bother me, and I won't bother you! I'm friendly to everyone else.

We grew up taking 5 guns each to the farm with 500-1500 rounds each gun (pistol, rifle, & shotguns), and target shoot, at targets, pennies are fun to shoot with a 22, 308, 8mm rifle.
We shoot clay piegons with 22's (I use peep sights), and deer & turkey hunt with a 30-30 with a scope, Turkey-head shot only! Elk hunt with a winchester 300 mag. (I have seen elk with bald spots from using to small of rifle and the bullet not going thru the hide) and bear hunt with a S&W .45 8" barrel revolver with scope. Pistols are only good for close, rifles shoot straighter & farther.

Guess our national leaders didn't expect this, hmm? On Thursday, Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton , Colorado , was invited to address the House Judiciary Committee's subcommittee. What he said to our national leaders during this special session of Congress was painfully truthful.

They were not prepared for what he was to say, nor was it received well. It needs to be heard by every parent, every teacher, every politician, every sociologist, every psychologist, and every so-called expert! These courageous words spoken by Darrell Scott are powerful, penetrating, and deeply personal. There is no doubt that God sent this man as a voice crying in the wilderness. The following is a portion of the transcript:

"Since the dawn of creation there has been both good &evil in the hearts of men and women.. We all contain the seeds of kindness or the seeds of violence. The death of my wonderful daughter, Rachel Joy Scott, and the deaths of that heroic teacher, and the other eleven children who died must not be in vain. Their blood cries out f or answers.

"The first recorded act of violence was when Cain slew his brother Abel out in the field. The villain was not the club he used... Neither was it the NCA, the National Club Association. The true killer was Cain, and the reason for the murder could only be found in Cain's heart.

"In the days that followed the Columbine tragedy, I was amazed at how quickly fingers began to be pointed at groups such as the NRA. I am not a member of the NRA. I am not a hunter. I do not even own a gun. I am not here to represent or defend the NRA - because I don't believe that they are responsible for my daughter's death. Therefore I do not believe that they need to be defended. If I believed they had anything to do with Rachel's murder I would be their strongest opponent.

I am here today to declare that Columbine was not just a tragedy -- it was a spiritual event that should be forcing us to look at where the real blame lies! Much of the blame lies here in this room. Much of the blame lies behind the pointing fingers of the accusers themselves. I wrote a poem just four nights ago that expresses my feelings best.



Your laws ignore our deepest needs,
Your words are empty air.
You've stripped away our heritage,
You've outlawed simple prayer.
Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
And precious children die.
You seek for answers everywhere,
And ask the question "Why?"
You regulate restrictive laws,
Through legislative creed.
And yet you fail to understand,
That God is what we need!



" Men and women are three-part beings. We all consist of body, mind, and spirit. When we refuse to acknowledge a third part of our make-up, we create a void that allows evil, prejudice, and hatred to rush in and wreak havoc. Spiritual presences were present within our educational
systems for most of our nation's history. Many of our major colleges began as theological seminaries. This is a historical fact. What has happened to us as a nation? We have refused to honor God, and in so doing, we open the doors to hatred and violence. And when something as terrible as Columbine's tragedy occurs -- politicians immediately look for a scapegoat such as the NRA. They immediately seek to pass more restrictive laws that contribute to erode away our personal and private liberties. We do not need more restrictive laws. Eric and Dylan would not have been stopped by metal detectors. No amount of gun laws can stop someone who spends months planning this type of massacre. The real villain lies within our own hearts.

"As my son Craig lay under that table in the school library and saw his two friends murdered before his very eyes, he did not hesitate to pray in school. I defy any law or politician to deny him that right! I challenge every young person in America , and around the world, to realize that on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School prayer was brought back to our schools. Do not let the many prayers offered by those students be in vain. Dare to move into the new millennium with a sacred disregard for legislation that violates your God-given right to communicate with Him. To those of you who would point your finger at the NRA -- I give to you a sincere challenge. Dare to examine your
own heart before casting the first stone!

My daughter's death will not be in vain! The young people of this country will not allow that to happen!"

I couldnt agree more firebird77clone. Thanks for sharing that. I dont watch much TV....havent for a very long time. Unfortunately I feel that our judiciary system along with our politicians make church and God a matter of social importance rather than a one on one, if and when they do go to church. I still remember our last open prayer as a group....way back in elementary school.....and the last time we stood before our flag as a group as said the Pledge of Allegience. And people wonder why I am so militant. I'm not sure my heart will ever be anything more than "sour" when I have to think about our country's management as a whole. Sorry if that offends anyone. We can all point fingers all day....but we the people are the reason our country is the way it is. We do much of the electing.

I would like to ask a question. How many reading this post have been robbed lately? Not necessarily by a gun but just plain robbed? I had a gun in my bedroom nightstand and was robbed at my dining room table. I responded to an ad in our local paper for a garage/ pole barn to make room for my junk so I could have room in my garage to work on cars inside instead of outside. The guy came with a truck with all of his information on it, polite honest looking hard working guy. When my wife and I agreed on the size of the building how, and where we wanted it, I called him back. He had given us samples of color, doors, windows everything that makes up a nice building 24’ X 32’ X 9’ eaves. We even went with extra concrete for a patio between the two garages. He wrote up the contract, had my wife sign the permit, we were set to go.

One small problem was, he had no intention of putting up our building. He was not registered, bonded, nor was his insurance up to date. This was 12-11-08 he walked away from my house with a check that he cashed on his way home for 75% of the cost of the building $8,850. Ray Shell Construction from Medaryville, Indiana is still walking around doing business as usual as far as I know. (I have watched enough court shows to know if it’s the truth you cannot be held for slander, or defamation of character). If you steal a loaf of bread in Colorado you will go to a privately owned prison, and even in my state you will go to jail but if it’s not robbery by certain criteria it’s up to you to get legal help. The Detective said it was criminal theft, and the prosecutor is trying to get him but he is still out and about. I turned over a 5-page document of every conversation date, and when he would offer excuse, after excuse why he wasn’t able to come over, and with recorded phone messages of him admitting he owes the money to us.

9 degrees outside I had no choice but to work outside because my wife’s car came home on a tow truck the rear brake pads came loose from the shoe, and got wedged, locked up the wheel. I had to replace the rear hub assembly plus the new brakes shoes, and drums. Ray has dish network he may have been watching an old movie, or laying back in his easy chair while I was freezing.

So you don’t need a gun, bat, brick, or any other weapon, just a good ballpoint pen to get by with crime. A crook is a crook, and they will use whatever it takes to get what they want.

I do not have one, a guy I know has one. His is a semi automatic shotgun that has a spring wound drum clip that holds about 30 shells. You hurt after a few rounds, but there is nothing left of what you were shooting at. I'm not sure, I think it was from the gangster years, along with the Tommy gun.

Thanks, just goes to show you're never to old to be taken by someone who appears to be honest. The law has to spend too much time on drug activity today to handle other forms of crime, that's just my opinion.

We are doing everything that's within the legal system. I have a trump card if everything else fails, can't say what it is now or it wouldn't be a TRUMP CARD!!! I will let you know when or if I play it. Maybe other people could use it also in the future if this happens to them.

He will go to jail if I have to deliver him!! I've been watching too much bounty hunter.

Man I just hate hearing a story like that, but you are right of course all thieves don't come in the dark of night. Hope you have a plan to recover your money. But if you are not able to do that remember "Revenge is a dish best served cold!!"

Also hind sight is always 20/20 and those of us reading this story all have advantage of hind sight. Its easy for me to set here and see some of the stuff you did wrong as well, after all I didn't loose any of "Your" money. The one thing you will always take from this is a little wisdom I am sure you will do that. But damn Buddy it was an expensive lesson......

I have to admit it. My liberal friends were right.

They told me if I voted for McCain, the nation's Hope would deteriorate,
and sure enough there has been a 20 point drop in the Consumer Confidence
Index since the election, reaching a lower point than any time during the
Bush administration.

They told me if I voted for McCain, the US would become more deeply
embroiled in the Middle East, and sure enough thousands of additional
troops are scheduled to be deployed into Afghanistan.

They told me if I voted for McCain, that the economy would get worse and
sure enough unemployment is approaching 8.8% and the new stimulus packages
implemented recently have sent the stock market lower than at any time
since 9-11.

They told me if I voted for McCain, we would see more "crooks" in high
ranking positions in Federal government and sure enough, several recent
cabinet nominees and Senate appointments revealed resumes of bribery and
tax fraud.

Well I ignored my Democrat friends in November and voted for McCain.
And they were right... all of their predictions have come true.

Hate to burst your rah rah Republican stuff, but there ain't nobody or no party could get this economic mess and all the other things you mentioned straightened out in 60 days!!!! Doubt we'll see much more then a leveling off and perhaps some upwards trends in much less then 2 years..... Ain't nobody, Obama, McCain, or anyone else going to just snap their fingers ain't fix things.....Gotta remember, we spent a couple decades getting in this mess.

And it would seem we're already back to the same old crap...Republicans blame the Democrats, Democrats blame the Republicans, the Independants blame everybody.... Nobody in politics seems to be able to accomplish anything anymore other then just casting blame....

Isn't part of this "great Democracy" to be to back your man, but if he should lose then we should all be working towards the greater good and not whining and doing the sour grapes crap???? Right or wrong, the MAJORITY of the voters chose Obama..... In a Democracy, doesn't the majority rule and wouldn't it be part of our civic duty to try to help improve things and not just sit back and criticize????

If you aren't part of the solution, then you must be part of the problem.......

Dave, I’ve heard you talk about politics and you seem to have knowledge that a lot of people lack. That being said I notice you have a skill to make a living, several times I’ve seen you write you only have to walk out your back door not too far to do your job for survival. There are a lot of people like you also that have a trade, I had one myself and made a decent living until I got busted up pretty bad. The people that do not have trades, or specialty jobs are hurting and I don’t know how they will be able to make it as before. Today I saw that 13 million people are out of work 8.8% unemployed. This Country does not make products anymore where people can work like in the past without having to have a skill. I hope your right about making a come back but I think China has pretty much put a damper on what this Country will make in the future.

Sorry, I just can't buy into the doom and gloom stuff.... I too am busted up---since 1971 far as that goes... No big deal, I just had to learn to do some things differntly, improvise a bit here and there, and not be ashamed to ask for help when I need it...

Unemployment is high...but we've both seen it in double digits... We've had a few discussions about the high unemployment. Of course it's bad, but IMO it's also an eye opener for some of the young-uns. No longer is it enough to just show up for work and expect to be paid well and retained....You dang well better do the job you were hired to do in a manner it is expected to be done or hit the door---there's lots of others willing to do the job.... Maybe some of these folks will learn how important it is to do the work you're paid to do.... Ain't no free rides no more!!!!!

All of my skills were either self taught, or learned by woking (often for free) on cars for other builders and racers!!!! Anyone can learn skills and a trade....but you might not make $30K a year while you learn.... Since I took over managing a shop for a friend after his help robbed him blind I've had the opportunity to talk with a lot of job applicants....For the most part it was depressing talking to them and listening to their expectations of what a job should be.... I've had them tell me that they just want to paint--they don't like to do body work...and, they want to learn how to build Hot Rods, but they'd have to make $18.00 an hour while they learn.....

One young fella who was a part time wrecker driver when I took over is now learning a lot of basic fabrication skills, still driving the wrecker, learning body work, shooting some primer on small parts, sweeping the floor, running errands and all sorts of other trivial tasks....He's also averaging 45 hours a week, plus some call outs for wrecker calls. He's going to be successful because he's willing to learn, and willing to start at the bottom and work his way up. He's a good learner, and wants to know the "why" as well as the "how" of doing tasks....

My glass is always half full, I guess. I never have been real good at whining and complaining. When I mess up, I take the responsibility for the mistake and fix it on my own time. I don't mind donating a few hours of work for the good of the shop... It's the things it takes in these ecomomic conditions to stay alive in buisness. The days of asking an employer, "What's in it for me?" are over. The successful people in today's environment are going to be task oriented and will be intelligent enough to realize that what is good for the company is good for them....

As for the economy improving, I see it beginning with small businesses. It's much easier for a small company to change direction and adept to changing conditions. IMO, the large corporations and all the different levels of management are going to be slow in changing their business practices because so many things have to be changed. For the most part, Joe Blow who is just one of thousands of employees fails to see how his job effects the livlihood of the company and he's just there for the paycheck.... But companies with a dozen or less employees are just the opposite. Everyone who wants to keep his job in a small company will take a lot of pride in what he does and is constantly trying to improve. He's also more apt to learn how efficiency in his job effects the overall success of the company.

I'm just babbling, but IMO small business will be the one's to help make the necessary changes and will also be the one's first in line for the rewards while the rest of the business world catches up!!!! We're back to the days of having to work for what you take home, and you'd better be willing to do a bit extra!!! A positive attitude, willingness to learn, accepting responsibility, doing a little extra, and doing what's best for the shop and not necessarily for you are again essential qualities for successful people. Whining, complaining, and blaming others for your own misfortune probably work good at the unemployment office......but not in a successful business....

and finally, maybe doing without for awhile might make people appreciate what they have a bit more....and also make them realize that there just ain't no free rides!!!!!!
